Thanks to the holiday, I finally have a chance to visit the homebrew store. Now, which would work better for making LC's - dextrose, or light malt extract? I couldn't really find any tek's for dextrose, but I found one for malt. Anyone?

Ok, so for quart jars which are going to be half filled with water, you would reccomend approximately a teaspoon of each? Sorry, my scales don't work at the weight you need for LC's, and every tek seems to use weights

This thread has some differring opinions, but tippinthru's recipe is the correct one: one level tbsp each to quart of boiling water.

ok, the jars were just placed in the pc. I had a heaping teaspoon of malt extractand a heaping teaspoon of dextrose in each jar. I also put in about 600 ml of water in each jar. everything sound ok? I hate to kep asking, but I've yet to have a single success with lcs and I'm trying to take every precaution this time. I even put an extra layer of alminum foil over each jar to keep out anything that might drip by the poyfil filter.
I'm gonna pc the jars for 40 minutes at 15 psi as well. so, does everything sound hunky dorey?

okie.. I didn't think the extra would make a huge difference, but I guess itd prolly carmelize a lot of the goodies.
also, when I added the boiling water to the malt and dextrose, the malt seemed to get realy doughy.. like bread or cookie dough. is that normal? I don't have coffee filters on hand so they're gonna be unfiltered.

Did you stir the malt/dextrose into the boiling water until it dissolved? It's intensely hygroscopic and will stick to anything (including itself) but will dissolve easily in hot water.
You don't need to filter; recent experiments with PCing have shown me that there's no way around sediment unless want to PC, strain, and then PC again.

th boiling water was addedto the malt and extrose, and was stirred while it was being added.
out of curiousity, is this the same malt they use in milkshakes?
