Whats with my agar plates?

Whats with my agar plate Edit Reply Ok, I've started my very first growing adventure and I have one question I hope some of you can answer. Now I inoculated my agar with spores from a spore print. The weird thing is its been 3 days now and I only see very tiny white dots. But these dots don't appear to have started where I swabbed the agar with the spores. They are spaced far apart. Is this normal? Are my agar dishes doomed? Or did the spores spread through the air on transfer causing their dispersed growing? Oh, and how long should it take before I see some real growth spurts in an agar dish? Its been 3 days and I only have these tiny tiny tiny white dots. Thanks folks.

I think you should be fine. I have waited alot longer than that before for my agar to show results.

Keep an eye out for contamination on the plates. It is usually easier to spot in a petri dish than in a jar because of the 2D growing surface. You will need to wait just as long to see germination on agar as you would in a jar. Usually you will see growth within two weeks, but sometimes it takes longer.

>But what are the white dots? Are they mold? Could be, and if you're certain you didn't spread spores there, probably. Could be one of a few contams, not just mould. Only time will tell. In a few days you should be able to see if its contam. If it is mould, it wont stay white, it usually changes colour. I have seen bacteria on agar plates, usually looks cream colour patch, growing very rapidly. Good luck

Donno... thats why I said keep an eye out for contamination. If they are bad you will know soon enough. They could be mold, bacteria, fungi, lint, nothing, something, ...

These were inoculated with spore syringe a week ago. Do they look okay? How long does it take to fill up the dish?

Hey dude, welcome to Shroomery. There are loads of folks who can help you out here with your questions. But it's probably best not to necro a 20yo thread to find your answers.
If you have agar questions check out the Agar Envy thread.
