History Of The Ages.

So we have
Creation The Age of the fish Age of the coal swamps Age of the reptiles Age of the Mammals cultural development Stone age Bronze age Neolithic age Iron age And now the Industrial Age....
We live on a planet of limited resources. Our technological development has yet to break the boundaries of basic resource requirements and we are now in the industrial age. An age dependent on our energy resource, most notably OIL...
Sooo what happens next is not only a change in our energy usage but a historical shift in our development...
Sooo which "AGE" will come next?
I say that it be "The Earth Age". An age where we use the environment to our advantage and live like we were meant too. Only then will we not destroy ourselves as a race and leave our planet to the next people who find it.

The resources aren't going anywhere. They will just end up in different forms. Energy doesn't disappear, it just changes form.
As for humans it doesn't matter if 3 billion die. We will will live on, we survived the last ice age and we can survive another catastrophe whether it is natural or man made. We might change through evolution though but we will live on.

I highly recommend reading a book called Natural Capitalism, by Paul Hawken and Amory Lovins. It's on a very similar note, where they are setting out to create what they call the second Industrial Revolution, in which the economy exists within and as a part of the ecology.

Technically we are in a post-industrial age in which most jobs are not production jobs but service jobs. ... but that's just details.
I believe that we will not be able to survive until we learn to live in harmony with other living organic systems (which we are not seperate from by any means). Only when we truly understand these systems will we be able to create our own "artificial" ecosystems for traveling space colonies... drifting through the aether until we find a planet outside our solar system suitable for colonization.
Either that or we could transfer our consciousness into machines, which would be much more able to survive deep space conditions...

You have got to be kidding me.
When you burn oil to power something, it's energy is transferred to motion. That oil is GONE. The energy does go somewhere, and while you're right it is not destroyed, it is transferred into a form which can no longer be harnessed.
Wind, solar, tidal power could easily power the world, there would be huge initial costs and maintenance, but it could be done.

Well technically CO2 is used to by plants and algae to make energy. So basically people can use the plants for energy. Or if you believe in the biogenic theory of petroleum then oil is always made as organisms that absorb carbon die and decay to form oil over time.

I was talking about a form of energy humans could harness. There is already more than enough CO2 for the plants on this planet.

Yes we can harness energy from plants because they use CO2 to make energy for themselves. That energy is later passed on to other animals or we can harness it ourselves. So the CO2 does not stay in the air, it is constantly used by plants.
