Customs and the Police

Note* I am not in any way affiliated with illegal activity or know anyone allifilated with illegal activity. This is a hypothetical question and situation and for educational purposes only.
With that being said...
Suppose a person ordered from a online company where mushrooms were legal. The company does not ship to the U.S. (for obvious reasons). The said person opens up a mail-forwarding box in another country where mushrooms were legal. The company ships to the mail-forwarding box, and then forwards mail to the recipient who resides in the U.S.
My questions are. (1) If customs were to catch this package, would a letter be sent or would the police get involved? (2) What is the most likely type of punishment the recipient would face if the police were involved? (3) This company that sells mushrooms also sells other herbal products that are legal in the U.S. So if the police were involved could said-recipient say that the order was mixed up and play dumb?
Example to last question.
Cop: Well then why did you have a mail-forwarding box? Recipient: Its cheaper over-time when your getting packages from overseas Cop: Why didn't you contact the police? Recipient: I didn't even know this mistake took place officer, but i assure you if i had known i would have.
Also note the mushroom quantity would be very small. No more than 10 grams.
Any feedback/help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

1) Probably a letter, but there have been cases where just a few cactus buttons were imported, and houses were raided. Never count on this aspect. Certainly depends on the amount being imported. 2) It likely depends on the state, and the amount. Keep in mind that they'll go by the fresh weight. And, are you sure that they'll even survive the trip? Being shipped twice and all? 3) It'd depend on your lawyer, and the judge. Do *not* explain this situation to the police officer. If they came, they came to arrest you, and they damn well have been planning it. Say nothing, defend it in court if you can.
Why bother with mushrooms, though? Grow your own, etc. If this is a major mail forwarding service, it's possible that it's more likely to be inspected? I don't know, just seems like mail forwarding services would raise an eyebrow or two, but what do I know...
Really, in the end... it isn't worth it for 10 grams.

I dont really have any ideal, what might happen, but why wouldn,t the said person just grow his own, sure a lot easier, and less to worry about if you live alone. Just my opinion.

Suppose said person lived with their parents, how would one go about hiding something like that?

"Suppose said person lived with their parents, how would one go about hiding something like that? "
You might be banned soon... but either way: Don't grow in your parents' house. Yes, it sucks, but it is property in their names, and you don't want to get them into trouble by manufacturing controlled substances there. Mailing mushrooms there is also a bad idea, for the same reason and the ones I mentioned earlier. It's not just a matter of screwing someone over who isn't involved (even ignoring the fact that they're your parents, as this applies to anyone you may live with), there's the fact that they're giving you a place to live. Don't return a negative favor.
Wait until you've got a place of your own to grow, it's worth the piece of mind and sanity, if nothing else.
If you want to do mushrooms, try to buy some locally. Just because you haven't been offered doesn't mean they're not around. However old you are, you'll be out of the house in a year or two. (Hopefully you aren't 14 or something.)

Thanks for the feedback. "Suppose said person lived with their parents, how would one go about hiding something like that?" was more of answering a question with a question. For obvious reasons the person wouldn't risk having their loved-ones being possibly led liable. Also, there is really no way to hide growing from a parent, i know.
Note* Some people of legal age (18 and over) do live with their parents

Sure. I did.
Don't be too surprised at the age accusations. No offense is meant. It's a bit of a problem, as you can imagine. I understand why one would be tempted to do it. Hell, I might've if I were a minor when I came here. But your life is simply not in your own hands, legally, at that age. Parents and schools take the responsibility from minors, and they always love having an answer to "where did johnny learn how to grow this?!?!" Ahh.. that damned internet. Let's have a PTA meeting. Corruption of the youth, etc. This is why the Shroomery Sweatshirts I've seen pictures of are sort of a frightening idea to me. While it is awesome in theory, I know the highschool *I* went to had dress code policy for drugs and alcohol. Why raise the attention? If the site were hosted in another country it'd be a different story.
But there are tons of underage posters around here, and sometimes they make themselves obvious. When they don't, the system kind of works itself out. While real life personalities differ greatly from online ones (often), someone not coming off as an idiot on a forum is less likely to act like an idiot in real life, to me.
For instance I've seen a ton of posters blatently give away their ages. Like, "Do you have any trip advice for me? I want to make sure my 18th birthday is one to remember." or "It's going to get erased from my record when I turn 18 anyway." Or just 'How old are you?' "16, why?"
This says (one of?) two things: 1. The poster doesn't have his shit together. Slipping up with a lie that should be simple, or just plain disregarding the rules of a community that he or she came to for help in the first place.
2. The poster isn't taking the responsibility to learn the rules of the environment he or she is in. Obviously this is important. If you can't read a disclaimer or sticky thread, you probably aren't aware of your local laws, or your rights. Not only is this a problem for you, it's a problem for the rest of us when you're here. You jeoparodize the community, even if only slightly, and it's selfish. Fortunately, the fact that you're more likely to slip up helps balance things out (see #1) and the issue partially takes care of itself.
There are plenty of minors, who I'm sure will never be detected. On the record, "It's too bad. It's still breaking the rules. It's inexcusable." Etc. In reality: They're not not too much of a worry.
Sorry... none of that really applies to you, just ranting.
