and we just cant give them THAT much power..... altohgh in reality it is seeming that these companies do controll the government more than we realise.....

Well, with anything energy or food related, I think it should all be public cooperative or something.
 Peace.

Gas prices don't affect the individual stations that much. Most stations make most of their money off of convenience items inside the store, not from the gas itself. The gas is just a means of getting people inside the store.

Oil companies do not set the price of gas. And Jimmy Carter removed the price ceilings on gas enacted by Nixon in panic. The ceilings caused gas shortages. None of you remember, but the gas lines of the '70s were a direct result of the ceilings. This may have been the only thing Carter did right, although by then the ceilings were largely irrelevant as prices globally had fallen well below the ceiling anyway. Figures that the only thing the dumb cunt did right was irrelevant

Supply and demand. Usually during holidays, people travel. A lot of people drive, and will use more gasoline than usual. I can't believe none of you noticed this during any other holidays. I noticed that the weekend before the 4th of July gas prices went up.

who was it who convinced the oil execs to lower prices sooooo much?
For the she-God's sake, people get it through your heads that oil companies don't set the freakin gas price!!
The mothafuckin' price (said in Samuel L. Jacksons' voice) is set by commodities futures traders in open pits on the mercantile exchange! It's all done above board and over-the-table. Okay??!!
The price lowered because Ernesto proved to be a weak hurricane which headed, not into the Gulf where the oil rigs damaged by Katrina are, but scraped the eastern coastline as a sub-hurricane.
But you must understand young blood, that supply-and-demand is VERY tight right now in history. It will ONLY get worse. If you have a brain you will prepare by stockpiling gold and silver.
If you don't have a brain feel free to blame the coming crises on your favorite political enemy. That is what everyone else will be doing.
You will have plenty of company.

You dont think that the oil company executives are the ones controlling the trade of their commodity to influence prices?
I doubt that the hurricane had anything to do with this.. Prices just fell, they fell fast and they stopped right when the first number in the price hit 2 and not 3. (all around Southern California anyway). Seems most like clever marketing to me and a push to get travelers out to enjoy the weekend, spend more money of BBQ and beach toys and shit that strengthens our economy.
Supply and Demand ...Pfffft.

That's just conspiracy-thinking.
Prices don't "just fall".
But feel free to believe whatever comforts you.

I think gasoline should only be sold at Wal-Mart.

I've heard that story that gas stations don't make much money on gas before. If I still believed in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy I would probably believe it.
Granted, they make a higher percentage profit on cigarettes coffee and soda, but they sell a hell of a lot more gas than coffee.

Enron traded energy commodities?
Exactly how did they accomplish this supposed manipulation?
Please provide some evidence for your claim. Thanks.

Now your just being a pest..
Google it yourself because theirs just tooooo many links to post them all here..
The ENTIRE Enron scandle was all about the execuitives manipulating the trade of their energy commodities and their falce accounting.

If you buy your gasoline at Wal*Mart with a Wal*Mart shopping card, you get 3 cents off every gallon.
Couple that with the savings you'll get at every day low prices and you'll never have to worry about financial issues again!
 Peace.
