hi...guys
I got some horse poo from Pav the other day.
So I pasturized it and spawned it with the Keepers Creeper strain.
This picture is of the colonizing poo.....day 2.
Sorry my camera suks.
All the white patches is mycellium breaking through the poo.
This is the shit....think I?ll be doing more poo casings.[image]/forums/w3timages/icons/wink.gif[/image]

probably should have bro.
but I didn?t have alot of poo and I wanted to make 2 casings.
I have 2 casings like this one.....with Keepers Creepers in them both.
They both have 3" of poo.
I?ll post update pics tonight.

Duude, I dont know about that - if I get a chance to take a pic or two of my friend tripyfungi?s setup before I leave town, your going to get to see some honking big shrooms coming up out of an uncased manure layer that was spawned w / birdseed - the manure layer is probably 4-5 inches in some places.
Ah well I guess thats not that much different from 3 inches, I?ll shut up now.

Spawned with 1/2 Pint of Golden Teacher, compliments of KoOS?. This is 5 days growth... approx. 2 quarts of horsy plop.
Yes, one half-pint can go quite a long ways

hehe, well i dunno for sure at all, afoaf just started working with dung, i read in someone who was experience with it saying around 3 inches, im sure plus or minus of course... but yea i mean it could totally be off... just what i read in a post..

I?ll answer you both.
Got horse poo from Pav.
Pasturized horse poo in a pillow case, in a large pot of mineral water for 30 to 40 minutes....at 160 to 170 degrees....used a Candy Thermometer.
Drained the dripping juice into the pot....wanted to keep it....for BRF jars later.
Let it sit in the sink to finish draining for about an hour....then squeezed out the pillow case some more.
I took a keepers creeper cake and put it in the food processor and mixed it up.
"Spawned one jar in each container with horse poo....1/2 a jar would have worked"
Washed hand and put broken up cake into the horse poo....and mixed by hand.
I love the feel of good poo!
Stuck in incubator.....and as you see it?s taking off quite well.
I?ll go take a picture right now.....brb

What would happen if you put that outside, in the summer? I?ll find out in a month if I?ll be spending my summer in a place with a pretty much unlimited supply of horse poop.. and I?m trying to think of a way to get some fungi to grow outside. Any ideas? Anyone done that before?

The horse poo is almost fully colonized.
I think another day or so....it will be fully colonized.
I wasn?t going to case this....let it fruit right off the poo.
I have asked my mentor his opionon....waiting on his reply....lolz

I have another poo container with Keepers Creeper in that too.
I will case that one....as suggested by Annovator.

can?t help but wonder what would happen if you used one of those pattys to colonize about half a bale of wheat straw hmmmm. I?ve cased with dookey but never used as a substrait hmmmmm may have to look into this further

That?s some inacurate information you?re giving joshua. Dogs intestinal fauna is allways present even if you just feed grain or vegetables, that fauna is consisted of several different bacteria wich decompose the food. Everything in food has to be broken down into small units in order to enter the bloodstream. Protein must be broken into its individual amino acids, fats must be broken into fatty acids, and carbohydrates (both simple and complex) must be broken into individual glucose (or equivalent) molecules.There, the food meets up with billions of hungry bacteria -- the natural "intestinal fauna" existing in the large intestine. These bacteria are happy to digest what it?s meant to digest, means what dogs eat, wich is not only vegetables. Result, the dog poo has a lot of bacteria among with several aminoacids and other compunds wich are not found in horse dung(eg), P.Cubensis will grow in horse dung because the dung is suitable, those extra compunds on dog shit and the lack of other will not promote the fungus growth.
Besides feeding just vegatables to the dog (poor dog), if you feed the dog dog food you?ll have to consider the existence of preservatives on that food.

Yes, and yes again; The GI tract of a carnivore is much different both in flora, as well as in length, compared to an herbivore. You can alter the intestinal flora of a carnivore ?somewhat? through diet modification, but not significantly. The vast majority of digestion is performed by the bacterial flora, not by the host?s secretions [though it definitely plays a role, gastric juices, pepsin, etc].
Keep in mind that NO MAMMAL is capable of digesting cellulose [e.g. hay/straw--the heart and soul of good herbivore ?dung?], it?s the bacteria that do it.
Someone posted a fruiting from human feces, the damn thing just didn?t look too happy!

I really hope they make the new "Grow Log Forum" when the new server is up and running.
I think these grow logs help new people see how to do things better.

Stupid question here...What exactly does casing do for the colonized poo? I thought it was primarily for moisture. Why will you get more pins if you case. I?ve got some B+ growing through some Dr. Bluthumbs right now. It?s been a week, and I?m probably half way there with no contam (Thanks Joshua for helping)

And I would defintly agree with you, I love looking at the pics of grow logs to see the progress, and learn what they did wrong, or what they did to get a killer flush.

The casing would give it more moisture...true....which is a plus.
But a casing layer would also give a better pin set.... If the substrate layer is even and the casing layer is even....and you patch it til the mycelium comes through evenly.
You will get more mushrooms and they will be spread out evenly through out the whole casing layer.
Which is what I should have done to begin with!!!
I will case all the rest of the poo in the future.
I just figgured that the poo was moist to begin with.....that If i had a nice even substrate that I would be fine. << wrong.
This has been a great learning experience.
I?ll post some more pictures in a few more hours.

Those are some beautiful fruits.
They remind me of PR?s, cept they do have a pointier cap of course.
I havent heard much of this strain until today when I was browsing the web. I came accross this site:

Hey Road, you could always scratch the mycellium after first flush and apply a casing layer for following flushes.... just an idea.

Yeah the keeper is this guy named shane out in marysville ohio. What he does from my observence and talking with him is that he mislabels strains (cubensis) from prints he trades from past customers and makes syringes. Also his so called CHB labs actually stands for crack head bob the guy who gives him prints also. He just makes massive amounts of syringes and taxes the hell out of them. His "Z" I believe is the PESH at least from the syringe I had, his "Blue meanies" seem like the Australian cub(he claims thier pan cyan though), his "NJ6" a matias romero, "Keepers creepers" seemed like a Cambodian. This is just on recieved (no I did not by them) syringes Im sure it varies syringe batch to syringe batch because of prints he has in stock. I personally would never purchase anything from him but I know lots do because his phone was ringing off the hook when I saw him.

Ya durban I have visited Shane too. I bought his grow kit and the Z-strain (this was before I knew better). The Kepper is a fucked up dude. I hope the word gets out that he is a rip and he goes out of business or he lowers his prices and stops trying to make a little more dough off the un-knowing.
durban do you live in OH? If so, any shroom hunting luck?

nope.....the Keepers Creeper is definately not the Cambodian.
I agree with you that it probably is another strain....don?t get me wrong.
but I have grown shit loads of Cambodians.....and they don?t look nothing like the Keepers Creeper!
I will also say this.....the Keepers Creeper is the fastest strain that I have worked with ....out of 14 or 15 strains.
It colonizes so fast it is unreal.
I just inoculated some grain with the Keepers Creeper and I had signs of white in less than 2 days.
Very impressive to me.

the poo was 2 1/2 to 3"....when I started.
now its like 2" it has really shrunk up....the mycelium has eaten it up.
I havested the mushrooms.....btw
I?ll get a total dry weight for shits and giggles.
The poo was cased with Coco Coir.....so I will update soon.
Last night I started 5 more containers of various strains on horse poo.
These have 4 to 5" of poo so they will be alot stronger.
They are in the incubator colonizing.....now.
So stay tuned......I?m going to be casing all of those.
no more straight poo.

Totally spaced out....go figgure.
The large fruits had 3 to 4" caps.....very nice.
and the smaller fruits had 1 to 2" caps.
I will take some with the 2nd flush and the other casing.
I?l be getting a new digital camera this next week.
So the quality of the pictures will be better.

I started some taz and poo last weekend in about the same size pan...pasturized at 180F for 1.5 hrs in the oven...so far so good...sure was a lot easier than in a pot of water and didn?t stink at all. Used a straw from the kids drink pack to vent bag. After I let it cool overnite just threw 2 pints into bag and mixed it all up...went fast clean and easy.
