Sterilizing a Syringe

Hey Ya'll! I got me a turkey-baster sized syringe that I'd like to use to inoc some grain jars with LC, along with needles that came with spore syringes. Both items have been used, so they need to be sterilized. Obviously, a PC is out, since plastic is involved, so I figure bleach is the way to go. So far, so good. But the bleach has to be rinsed out - right? Won't this rinsing with water contaminate the "works" all over again? Any suggestions?

i think i read somewhere that you should wrap the syringe in aluminium foil and then pressure cook for 30 minutes.
another method is to get some boiling water, suck it up into the syringe and then squirt it out, flame sterilise needle and then use an alcohol wipe.

if your not sure if it can be pressure cooked...
I'd use this method...
1. Fill a large cooking pot halfway with tap or distilled water. (use distilled water if your tap water contains higher levels of minerals and chemicals).
2. Boil the water in the pot on high for a minimum of ten minutes... this should be adequate to sterilize and cleans the water of all bacteria, viruses, and mold spores.
3. Take your empty syringe(leave the needle on) and fill it with the boiling water. Allow it to sit for two minutes with the hot water inside.
4. Purge the hot water from the syringe into a sink, not back into the saucepan.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4...two or three more times. the last time leave the hot water in the syringe.
6. Place the syringe in a cool draft-free place, preferable in a clean zip-lock bag
7. Allow it to cool for several hours before making up your spore syringes...etc.

Syringes are made to be sterylized. They can take the heat of a PC, unless it's not a real medical syringe.

not all syringes are made the same...
there are a few brands that don't hold up when you pressure cook them.
If you have an odd ball brand... pressure cook one of them to test and see if they are pc'able!~

Yeah but dont forget to wrap them in aluminium foil. Cause if they melt, you dont want plastic all over your PC.

Yeah, that sounds reasonable, although I think I'll begin with bleach and then rinse by this method. Thanks!
