How long do mature mushrooms live?
    #6016056 - 08/31/06 05:37 PM (18 years, 4 months ago)

I have a small casing that is about in the middle of mushroom growth. I am going out of town Friday and will return Monday. My question is How long will a mature mushrooms live. They are all less than an inch tall but I don't know how long it will take them to mature. Also the casing is in a plastic tub with perlite and the lid cracked open so I don't know how much Fae there is.

Strain is koh samui. This is second flush, but first flush eas all aborts. this one looks like they wont abort. I was wondering how long it takes before a mature mushroom rots.

Yeah, and how long do they last fresh? I had some in my pocket for about an hour before I gave them to a kid that told me he was eating them 2 1/2 hours later. Gave me some bud in a trade. Just wanna make sure he didn't get fucked over because they went bad.

They will not go bad in a couple of hours after being picked. You can keep them fresh for a decent amount of time in a paper bag in the fridge.

As far as how long they can stay on a cake....hmmm.....I don't like to let them get too old. Truthfully I have never left them on long enough to see when they will start rotting. If you pick them just before or as the veil is breaking you will be fine. If you want a spore print from the let the caps open up and start dropping spores and then print. Look up some of the printing guides if you are unfamiliar with this.

You will be ok. The only problem would be dropping spores which is a big mess, but you might be back before that.

I just had the same problem. My bulk grow was going into its fourth flush when I had to leave town for a few days. I got back to mushies that should have been picked at least 36 hours earlier. The caps were totally flat and there were spores everywhere but no rotting. I won't be able to comment on the potency until after the weekend.

I remember hearing as long as the mushroom is attatched to the substrate it will NOT rot..... but from personal experience I cant vouch... but Im sure youll be fine just dont stay gone 2 weeks or nothing
