Just finished all the Michael Connelly fiction novels. That’s 36 over 3 years, along with other stuff.
There is a new one out on November.

Starting sphere by Michael Crichton

The dawn of wonder by johnathan Renshaw.

Really good. Follows a boy who's childhood friend was taken by slave traders and his growing up through military academy to seek revenge.

The Shining by Stephen King

It's been my understanding that the book is very different from Kubrick's movie. So I figured I'd check it out, and so far this understanding has proven quite true. There's a lot more in the book than there is in the film. I'm not sure, in the end, which I will like more, but even having seen the movie over ten times, I can say the book will provide a lot of interesting material.

I like the Kubrick movie better. It captures the essence of the book economically and artfully, and the ending is superior. (The endings of the book and film are totally different). There are many differences. The hedge maze of course plays a pivotal part in the movie, and in the book there is no hedge maze. In the book he has a croquet mallet, in the film he has an axe. There are subtle differences like that throughout. Book was great, movie is iconic.

Next up: The New Inquisition by Robert Anton Wilson

and Native American Wisdom ed. by Kent Nerburn and Louise Mengelkoch

Yes I read the trilogy a couple of years ago, and it's one of the best sci-fi experiences I've had. So inventive, and exceptionally well-written. I think you'll be impressed by it.

I'm caught up in the Oppenheimer hype, and I recently re-read Richard Rhodes' The Making of the Atomic Bomb. Next I'm going to read what is sort of a historical sequel to it, his Dark Sun: The Making of the Hydrogen Bomb. Not very pleasant stuff, but terribly important.

I'll always love Oppenheimer's quote when he saw the first detonation for its translation mishap.
