That's a great book, and much better than the movie. SPOILER ALERT Wolfe skewers every social class, and only a couple characters are portrayed positively, the Irish detective Martin primarily, and his Jewish partner and Judge Kovitsky. The main character, Sherman Mcoy develops, and when he hits bottom and has to do whatever is necessary to get back, he becomes a sympathetic figure.

Indeed. I've read it before; I love re-reading Tom Wolfe books, he was a 20th century master. Yeah, Sherman turns from a royal asshole into someone you actually feel for. Wolfe was one of the greatest character-developers I have ever read.

Wolfe was the rare super-cool conservative; he satirized the left but probably was read mainly by liberals. I first encountered his work when Rolling Stone was still a double fold newspaper, and put part of The Right Stuff in each issue. Next was From Bauhaus to Our House, which somehow made architecture amusing.
Besides Bonfire, I never got much into his other fiction, but may try again.

For sure. His fiction books "A Man in Full," "I am Charlotte Simmons" and "Back to Blood" are all very good, imo.

I think I started Charlotte Simmons. Did you have a favorite of those three?

Yeah thanks, it seems to have a more interesting theme for me than Charlotte.

I should post here more often I read almost every day. I recently had to take a break from The Mind Gut Connection to start The Gospel of Râmakrishna.
The mind gut connection is about how what we eat affects our moods and feelings. Seems obvious right but the book tells of so much I never knew and I have been studying health and the body my whole adult life. Highly recommend!
The Gospel of Râmakrishna is a spiritual book where a disciple or the Râmakrishna basically wrote down words and conversations of his Guru ver batim while sitting around with Him many years ago. So far its phenomenal.
Much love everyone, keep reading books!

Just finished The Lives of Brian, by Brian Johnson. I love Brian Johnson, so I loved the book. All about his life from birth up through the beginning of the Back in Black tour. Good stuff.
Also, finally finished The Windup Girl, by Paolo Bacigalupi. Very original, but also very bleak and depressing.
