When i saw the Movie, my mind was blown. Easily one of my favorite movies.

Just started the original here. Loving the Intro. Very relatable and easy to read. Hes giving a history of how this book came to be. Im excited about this Classic and where it takes me

Dude.... that movie was a travesty, I’m happy it brought you into OSC’s works but part of me died when I watched that adaptation.
So so bad and they obviously didn’t ever intend to continue from there.

If I remember right Valentine isn’t even a fucking character.
The subsequent books couldn’t even happen without her.

Please promise me you will keep reading the series at least to Children of the Mind?!?
If not at least Xenocide.

Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right

It's dense, but very interesting, outlining some of the ways money has been used to influence thought in the United States. Trusts and endowments that fund think-tanks and lobbyist groups or start programs at colleges/universities that push a conservative agenda, supporting deregulation for the direct benefit of those billionaires. Pretty crazy stuff that a lot of people know about, but the amount of detail in this book is fascinating.

Started Magician: Apprentice (Book One of the Riftwar Saga) by Raymond E. Feist today and enjoy it already  getting myself into a potentially big commitment as the entire Riftwar Cycle (this saga is the first four books of it) is a total of 30 books (!!!) - lots of reading potentially!

@deff I tried picking up Feist before, but I stopped halfway as I felt like I was reading someone's DnD adventure notes in a setting they've been playing for years. I hear magician is good, do let us (me) know if you enjoyed it!

She wrote another one that had great prose and was amazing.  Think she only wrote two books in her life but will have to google it.  The movies are garbage.

Lazy man way of books covered by movies IMO.

I'm reading Moby Dick, and struggling with the Bhagavad-Gita. I just got a new book from Chuck Palahniuk, Haunted. Excited to start that one, love Chuck P.

I'm reading The Life Divine by Sri Aurobindo and loving it. Amazingly wise presentation of the spiritual evolution of humankind and the deeper processes of life. Highly recommend it to anyone who explores that sort of thing

Going with Let it Bleed by King.  Have no clue what it is about, just a constant reader.  Strange reading horror books and crime/mystery stuff then mixing in a lot of self help books by Peterson and Carlson.

Why I love to journal.  Mind works strangely and why I like psychedelics.  Letters being pieced together then coherent thought after coherent thought then a story develops and then one gets into it like it is life though one knows it is fiction.  Then back to non-fiction.

Strange dynamic.  Since Hollywood is dead with Covid causing no new stuff being made like most people reading a lot and putting way to much thought into it.

Just read Let it Bleed and liked it. There aren't many King publications I haven't enjoyed and these novellas are in his classic style.

I started reading I'll be Gone in the Dark, about the Golden State Killer. Started watching the series too, which was a bit of a mistake to do together because they're duplicative of each other but told in a different order.

Also started Diaspora by Greg Egan but it's a little out there for me and I'm not sure I'll finish it. I have a hard time imagining the concepts described, especially the geometry and math based stuff which are not my best subjects.

I just finished reading "The Joy of Hate" by Greg Gutfeld (2014)

It's a book that's a bit outside the scope of my usual reading list. I enjoyed it a lot. I like his casual way of writing and the boatload of dry wit. I found it intellectually interesting - he dissects the explosion of "phony outrage" in this age of tolerance (which is really intolerance below the surface). Unmasks the fact those who call themselves tolerant are often the most intolerant.

My next book to read is "Creative Clowning"! A well known book on the subject of clowning.

I finally finished Infinite Jest. It was the most incredible novel I've read and my new favorite work of fiction. I was amazed at the depth of the characters, their struggles and observations.

Wallace has a commanding vocabulary and ambitious themes. The form of the novel itself is perhaps the most impressive. It was difficult to not immediately reread it after finishing it...

However, I wan't to take some distance from it before meeting again. Until then, I'm currently reading On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill by Dave Grossman.

Yeah, have heard good things about it for awhile now.  Shit, will just buy it on my Kindle so I don't forget again.  Thanks for bringing the book up.

1,008 pages.  Wow.  As long as IT.  Can easily do it though.  2009 published, thought it was older but maybe because I have been hearing about it for so long.  Fuck it.  I like writers I have never read before.

I got into a horrible habit of watching anime at night instead of reading. So I havnt read anything in like 4 months

I partially blame the Lightbringer series though, which i got bored of but felt obligated to finish. That kind of burnt me out

Lol.  I get it but with different shows that I binge watch and get lazy then fucked up and it is a lot of effort to read instead of just lounge and watch.  Especially not having to work.

I have two great books now and I am going to force myself to read.  Is easier when one gets into it to me.  Is always hard for me to follow and get into at the beginning but then it is like 50 to 75 pages a day.

God, during covid just keeping in shape and not drifting into benders and or lazyness for days on end is difficult but have done well.  I hate the feeling of overeating or just staying in my apartment for days and doing nothing and everything negative seems magnified.
Am fit for the most part.  At least I am on a sports team so something to get off my ass for.

But reading yeah, takes as much effort to play in a game if one takes substances and socialize when all the bills are payed for and it is so much easier to just watch your favorite shows or Youtube music and short bits on one's couch or recliner.  But these books are worth it.  I have a kindle, nook, and a library card.

Made me laugh when they posted not to put library books in the microwave to clean it of covid as it destroys the metal reader in it.

It better not be like this next year with Covid.  It sucks.
