Third is out, it's called MaddAddam, came out last summer.

Acid doesn't give you truths; it builds machines that push the envelope of perception. Whatever revelations came to me then have dissolved like skywriting. Sweet thanks for the insight I'll have to order it this pay period as the local bookstore was too lame to carry it.

Cheers!

The Madman of Freedom Square by Hassan Blasim - short stories about modern Iraq by a really talented writer

Tablet & Pen: Literary Landscapes from the Modern Middle East, ed. Reza Aslan - collection of short stories, excerpts, and poems spanning over one hundred years of Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Urdu and other Middle Eastern literature

The Yellow Wind by David Grossman - by one of Israel's most renowned novelists, a nonfictional account of his time in the West Bank in 1987

All three amazing reads.

I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

Opened 'The Perennial Philosophy' by Aldous Huxley a couple days ago.  It is pretty heavy so it may take a while, but just after the first couple chapters I am hooked.

i wanna check that out now.

I just finished this over the weekend and highly recommend it.  It delves into some very interesting and concerning topics about mysticism/spirituality, very applicable information.

I began 'Fever Pitch' by Nick Hornby for an enjoyment read.

And then 'This is your Brain on Music' by Daniel Levitin, which is already thoroughly intriguing 50 pages in.

Huxley is one of my favorites, no doubt about it.
Island is my top by him, but Eyeless and BNW are also great. That being said I have some book by him that I couldn't even finish... forget the name, but it's a collection of short stories and plays. Just couldn't capture my attention.

Island is definitely my favorite by him as well, such an entertaining, and yet introspective work.  I really enjoyed Time Must Have a Stop and Ape and Essence as well.

I tried reading Grey Eminence by him, and only got 50 or so pages in before I gave up.  One of the few books I have ever started and not finished.  It was a bit of a bore, and covered a topic I was not interested in.

Onto second book of maddadam trilogy by Margaret Atwood, the year of the flood. First book relatively compelling.

Cheers

2nd book is just a bridge to the third, not so compelling in its own right. Esp. compared to the first which is so fantastic.

hmmm, been meaning to check this out. so it's best to not hold to much expectations for the second book but the other two are what? still good, right?

The trilogy itself is def worth the read and yes good on the whole. Def check out what Atwood does with these. Second book only is overshadowed by first and as omr says the third does the same, only BC its a detailing and time fill in between the two. Seriously still enjoyable if you've gotten into the trilogy and enjoy the first one.

Cheers

He sure is haha and that's what makes him so unique. But he's my favorite author for sure, I really gravitate to his writing style. You should pick it up again and finish it!

I'd say his best work is The Great Shark Hunt.

A+E is great too! I have that as well, love it, but forgot about it!
But yeah some of his stuf (even doors of perception) I find myself glossing over words, then paragraphs, then pages, hahaha. Some of his stuff I just can't get into.
