"This night wounds time," is, I believe the openig line. And I haven't read it in 20 years. Kid, Denny and Lanya is one of the greatest love stories ever. Orchids are weapons and there is a second moon named George

How is that?

Huge Pynchon fan.

Staggeringly good. I'm not yet deep into it but I'm getting the feeling it's going to be right up there with Gravity's Rainbow. I ran into a literature friend the other day and he was half into it and very excited. He wanted to tell me all kinds of stuff about it but stopped himself before I had to. He was struggling though. That's always a good sign.

I didn't know Eugenides wrote that. I recently read Middlesex and thought it was very good. I would recommend it to any serious reader.

Pengy:

I think I've read all of the novels but am missing the short stories. My order of ingestion has been:

Gravity's Rainbow, Vineland, V, the Crying of Lot 19, Mason Dixon.

OMR: I hope nobody spilled the beans on Middlesex, because if they did you should punch them.

Aren't you glad I didn't queer the deal for you? Now, when you're done with that junior exercise in Heinleinology, go for Time Enough For Love.

Hopefully, it will only change your attitude about overweening arrogant assholes. I liked the book, despised the character. A self absorbed asshole for the ages chronicling his failure as a human being.

Try Lullaby. And really, Chuck has a lot to say that isn't precisely spelled out for you. He is NOT recreational beach material. Ellis' American Psycho is a masterpiece.

Where do they hang out and do you think they might be into a properly abusive relationship with a 50 year old pervert? 'Cause I KNOW I can show them a thing or two.

  It's a wonderful read.

My favorite read of all time, so far.

Pynchon's Against the Day is slowly inching in there...

The Illuminati Trilogy is truly a great read.  Lightweight, but great.  I am going to continue to flog the greatest book ever written, which is A Confederacy of Dunces.

And PT, I'm working on Against the Day too, except I think my wife hid it

The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged are two of the most influential works of fiction ever published. Agree or disagree, it's a good idea to at least read The Fountainhead, the shorter of the two. Going to a movie doesn't quite do it.

I just read it a few months ago. I was unimpressed and found it trite and a poor treatment of a rather hackneyed genre. But it's quick and you will waste very little of your life on it.

Stop it, homos, and get a room. What the fuck, isn't this kind of distasteful, nay, heinous, nonsense why we have OTD? Why yes, yes it is.

Parse that, bitches.

How about you tell us what you're reading, Mr. Off-Topic?

David Foster Wallace: Consider The Lobster

I highly recommend everything he has written.

I liked Lullaby more than Choke but they were both good.
I bought Dahlgren for my daughter at the same time. I expect to be rereading that soon. Very soon. Right after I get a "What the fuck are you giving me, Daddy?"

John Barth wrote a very good epistolary novel in 1979. It was called Letters and you should check it out.
