I didn't know Eugenides wrote that. I recently read Middlesex and thought it was very good. I would recommend it to any serious reader.
Everyone I know who has read both prefers Middlesex so I'm very excited to read it.

I've read every Tom Robbins book, which kind of sucks, considering he's in my top 5 as well and I've got nothing left to discover. He's fairly old, too, who knows how many he has left in him..

There's one book newer than Fierce Invalids - Villa Incognito, which actually has a character in common with Fierce Invalids.

Villa Incognito has one of the characters from Fierce Invalids. Not the main character...his boss at the CIA.

I was just reading about Pharmako/Gnosis last night...care to share a few words about it? I'm also curious about What is the What - I was underwhelmed by his other book, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius.

While on vacation the past week I read:
Speaker for the Dead by Orson Scott Card Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind by Shunryu Suzuki The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch by Philip K. Dick
Middlesex, by Jeffrey Eugenides, which was fucking TERRIFIC.
Now I'm reading Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein.

Are you from a Jewish family? I always wonder how close to home the jokes in Portnoy's Complaint strike for the gentiles who read it. It seems like such a collection of inside jokes for men who were raised by Jewish women.
