This. Anne Rice is one of my favorite fiction authors, with such a great ability to relate her stories to real world history with her own little twist.

And this. I'm actually just about to start rereading this one. Tolkien is another of my favorite fiction writers. He was a truly imaginative and highly intelligent human being. Even more so, in my opinion, than C.S. Lewis(whom I feel is a bit over-hyped, but that's neither here nor there).

Siddhartha - Herman Hesse(my favorite book of all time no doubt...can't wait to read again)

Currently 10 pages into Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe

Very nice! I read both of those last year for a Philosophy class and loved them both. It's unfortunate that Achebe has gone into the great ether, but I think his message and his legacy will love on. Siddhartha was an earth-shattering read. Blew my mind to pieces and reconstructed them. very nice selections :raisemyglass:
I'm about to try out some Conrad with "Heart of Darkness", since I've been a fan of "Apocalypse Now" for quite some time and would like to see where at least part of the impetus behind the film came from.

Just finished Blood and Gold by Anne Rice, now working on The Vampire Armand. Figured it's time to catch up before the release of Prince Lestat and the following sequel Blood Paradise.

Just about to read Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice for the second time. I've read Lestat and Queen of the Damned countless times, but always lacked a copy of Interview until today. Still can't wait to read the new addition to the Chronicles.

Those were fun.  Nothing of any real substance but fun stories nonetheless.  Like the Clan of the Cave Bear stuff

Yeah, I always thought Anne Rice had an interesting take on the old-world architecture throughout the areas of Nepal and Europe she wrote about. I didn't make it through the first "Jesus Christ" book she wrote, but I liked her perspective. She was very direct and didn't pull any punches, even when it came to the homoerotic subtext in her stories. Queen of the Damned was still one of the funkiest trips of a book written by her that I got into, but Blood and Gold was also quite an interesting read. Still haven't gotten bold enough to read A Cry to Heaven, though.

Yeah, school was all "Catch it in the Eye" by Jerry Scrotumger and fucking "Groveling Expectations". That shit sucked. I was more into Poe, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Clavell, Phillip Dick, Hunter Thompson, and Anne Rice just for a little historical monster fiction. I tried Thus Spake in college, but I had a serious bitch of a time trying to get through it. Siddhartha was much more my style as far as spiritual philosophy books went.
