Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test
Found it in my apparently life-long sober Dad's bookshelf.
Why do I, from all his Eastern meditation books, to his Hunter S. Thompson books, think that he may have had a substantial amount of drugs in his past?

In the last 2 weeks I finished:

Into The Wild - Jon Krakauer
Siddhartha - Herman Hesse(my favorite book of all time no doubt...can't wait to read again)
Cat's Cradle - Kurt Vonnegut

Currently 10 pages into Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe

Infinite Jest by DFW right now. Around 200 pages in, things are starting to connect and I'm liking it a lot.

Just finished Chuang Tzu, a great Taoist book. I did like the Dao de Ching more but comparisons shouldn't be made.. They each teach great lessons (and comparisons shouldn't be made...).

Currently reading Lonesome Traveler by Jack Kerouac. Lovely book

OZA whats good man! Havent seen you around in a while.
Lonesome Traveler is one of my favorite books by kerouac by the way.

Just ordered a copy of Really The Blues by Mezz Mezzrow.
Been wanting to read it for a while, pretty excited for it to show up.

Hey buddy! Yeah I've been busy with school and kind of had a 1 year vacation away from psychedelics/drugs. Pretty much a mind cleanse - it has done quite a bit of good for me. Tried deems last night and I think I'll be back for a while. Lonesome Traveler is indeed a great book, I'm very much enjoying it. Hope you're well

Finished Lonesome Traveler, great book - I'll share my favorite line: 'Sometimes I'd yell questions at the rocks and trees, and across gorges, or yodel - "What is the meaning of the void?" The answer was perfect silence, so I knew.'

Reading Notes From Underground by Dostoyevsky and then I'm going to indulge in a few Jiddu Krishnamurti books

Good choice. That's an absolutely hilarious book. Took me around 100 pages to catch on but it's one of my favorites now

look, it's a long ass book, and i am taking it slow and steady. i had a groove... i lost it, then i picked up back up again, and i can tell you exactly where... Madame Psychosis, at the radio station: introduce Joelle, and then things start getting even MORE complicated, seeing as though there is ready a whole House House of characters in one place, and then whole shit ton more at a friggin Tennis Academy...

i am just getting past a hump, and soon i'll probably get into my half-way point speed; i usually start picking up my reading at about half way through a book; and seeing as though this fucking book is truckin ridiculous, i thought i'd read Choke quickly before Blood Meridian...get into that, and then finish up Infinite Jest. it's not like i'm gonna forget anything, i've been keeping an IF log of everything that happens in the book! :cookiemonster:

i won't lose the plot. but i'm finishing it within his summertime, yo! HUYH!

Good call keeping a log, definitely need it for a book like that. I read IJ in just over a month.. It's an incredible book in many many ways. I do think it's a bit overdone and I can't say I'd read many more books like it, but it is postmodern so that should be expected.. DFW was a great great author, it takes a special mind to write a book like that.

Reading Lost Horizon by I forgot who and Metamorphosis by Kafka. The latter book is incredibly creepy, but it has some deep allegorical meaning.

I was blackout the other night and apparently I ordered a used copy of The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoyevsky and Rum Diary by HST. I literally have no recollection of this, but when I woke up I didn't mind my drunken decision at all. Probably will do Rum Diary next and Brothers Karamazov when I'm out for the summe

Why do you consider that an indulgence?

I normally steer clear of preachy books, I like to follow my own path, but Krishnamurti does have great things to say

Both could be overdone. I agree with most of what he says, I just normally don't like a book like his

Finished Kafka's The Trial. Very very good book, Kafka's an incredible writer.

Currently reading The Snow Leopard by Peter Matthiessen, it's a tale about a trek in Nepal with a lot about Buddhism in it. HST is up next!

Has anyone read Carl Jung? I'd like to read something of his, preferably leaning more toward philosophy than psychology if that exists in his works

Finished The Journey to The East by Hesse. Bah, Siddhartha is my favorite book by miles but for some reason I cannot stand other Hesse works. It's not even that I have high expectations for his other books - his whiny tone is just really annoying.

Reading Still Life With Woodpecker by Tom Robbins right now. He's awesome
