reading 'flow my tears the policeman said' by philip k. dick for the second time. i'm about to start alan moore's 'promethea' series too (i have the whole run). i'm also slowly going through 'turn on your mind: four decades of great psychedelic rock' by jim derogatis, which is excellent. i tend to read a lot of things at once.

promethea is well worth the read. just finished it last night and moved onto this.

takes place about 125 or so years after "jedi". very dark, very violent, very awesome.

The Sound and the Fury - William Faulkner (Faulkner is amazing by the way)

Troilus and Creseyde - Geoffrey Chaucer

Arabian Days and Nights - Naguib Mahfouz

All at once. Another fun year of being a lit major.

been wanting to check out faulkner. any starter rec's?

i'm mostly reading stuff for school, but it's interesting.

heideggar - discourse on thinking
plato - the trial & death of socrates (grube translation) - fucking amazing!
cicero - on the good life

i'm also trying to find a good comic series to get into. tried final crisis, tom strong and a few others. meh, might start on the dark tower comics.

Good luck.  And that comes from a huge Joyce fan.

the dubliner was recommended to me by one of my prof's as a good starting point. much more lucid, if that's the one i'm thinking of. it's on the list with a ton of other stuff.

there's a companion reader that's good with dostoyevsky aliensexx. i can hunt it down if you need it. it fleshes out a lot of the stuff you don't get by just reading him. like for example, in the brothers k, a lot of the examples he uses in regard to acts of human brutality (i'm thinking of the chapter "the grand inquisitor") reference actual events that were happening in the area at the time. and to be fair, i personally haven't read that, but i intend to if i get any deeper with dostoyevsky. i have 'notes' on my shelf and would like to get the companion reader before i get to that.

as for me, it's the usual comic nerdery with some school shit, and i picked up a really great book on plotinus ('the essential plotinus - it's basially a scholar's introduction to him along with selections from the enneads) that i'm sure i'll have to check out over and over again until i get around to finishing it by december.

still reading this. it's fun.

about to start reading this alongside it.

i started a couple of philip k dick novels awhile back and they're not grabbing me, so i've set them aside for now. i also have a copy of steven waldman's 'founding faith' that i've been neglecting and need to just start over.

with comics, i just caught up on the 'morning glories' and intend to catch up on 'star wars: dark times' and 'the infinite vacation' soon. i'm also ready for the 'nonplayer' series to get some steam and start hitting the racks.

finally, noteworthy mentions of my reading list from class:

plato - republic

sister miriam joseph - the trivum: the liberal arts of logic, grammar and rhetoric (this is an amazing text on general grammar)
