My sister gave me this for my birthday. Had the chance to see/hear Haruki Murakami speak at a nearby college last month, but I ended up not going :frown:

Ah yes! I still have to check out the movie (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) but I've read the book a few times.

How funny, a few days ago I pulled out Dune to read again...then I got distracted by some shinny new fiction I haven't tried. I love the Dune series; probably one of my favorites.

Just finished That Night by Alice McDermott--really enjoyed it. Kafka On The Shore is next.

I'm trying to get back into the fiction flow. Two years of just reading one non-fiction book after the other, with the occasional short story or novel sporadically tossed in there, has not been the best for my inner child

I started and finished Ishmael a few days ago. Funny, I remember picking it up when it first came out in Borders, but putting it down after a few pages. I love how everything works out...as if somehow you unconsciously know you're not ready for a book, and will return to it years later when you finally are.

Sounds interesting...can you spill any info?

Have you seen the trailer, yet? I'm excited for the film adaptation...I hope it's not a let down.

Nice; I have that one on my shelf.

I've been getting into Pema's westernized buddhist books:

Just finished This Is How You Lose Her by Junot Diaz. Next I'll try reading a book that doesn't stir up hate over the flaws of humans supposedly in love

I just read an article about him the other day and meant to pick up one of his books.  Not that one, but a different one whose name escapes me at the moment.  The library had lost it, however, and didn't have another copy.

Probably Drown, which is similar to This Is How You Lose Her. Oscar Wao is his most famous one, though. Regardless, check out any one of his works...here's a great short by him which is pretty emblematic of his style: How To Date a Brown Girl (Black Girl, White Girl, or Halfie). I think that one is also in Drown but I'm not too sure, it's been a while since I read it.

I read Life of Pi about 6 months before the movie came out, before I even knew they were making a movie on it. Great book. The movie leaves out so much internal dialogue and background. I read the whole book in two days.

I was thinking of seeing the movie now that I've finished it. Do you recommend it?

It's become one of my favorite books.

Well, I saw the movie in 3D while it was still in the theaters and after that I don't think I would rent it and watch it again. I think the movie takes away too much from the book (duh) but it did have some stunning visuals that were really cool to watch on the big screen in 3D. My imagination did better justice than the movie, so I would only watch it if you were really bored or if you have a really kickass TV.

On another note, I am reading The Synchronicity Key by David Wilcock.

Completely relate to that. I also have an imagination that tends to kick reality's ass. Not the biggest fan of watching things "just because they're pretty," so I think I might pass on it. Thanks for the opinions!

Just checked out The Synchronicity Key on Amazon. Looks promising! How are you liking it (or not)?
