WBS and hydrated lime question
    #6009636 - 08/29/06 08:03 PM (17 years, 6 months ago)

I've seen RR suggest to put hydrated lime in his soak water for wbs. How much per cup of grain should i put into the soak water? the same with gypsum, which RR also suggests putting in the soak water?

I suggest a bit of hydrated lime if you're soaking in weak coffee, due to the acidity of the coffee. Use no more than a teaspoon for 2 gallons of soak water. If you're soaking in plain water, skip the lime. Use one tablespoon of gypsum per gallon of soak water, regardless of how much grains are in it.

I use five gallon buckets to soak my WBS.

I put 20 lbs. in each bucket.
which fills the bucket 2/3 full when dry, 5/6 full when hydrated.

I fill the bucket up to an inch or two from the top for soaking.
In that soak water, I add:

Two Tablespoons of Gypsum.

I add this to the water before dumping it in the bucket.
That water also has six cups of fresh brewed coffee in it.

I would assume that's about three gallons or so.

So somewhere around one tablespoon per gallon of soak water.

or something like that.
