How to hold onto me?

I realy like my personality. I have the perfect mentality to appreciate all the weirdness that can be found but everytime I dose I lose myself completely. I also hear alot of people talking about how they figured out some aspect of their life and stuff like that. How can I think about changing my life when on my last trip even my toes confused the hell out of me? I want to use psychadelics as a tool for my mind not to destroy my mind. Am I just using the wrong substance? Do I need more practice? Help me out here.

You are either not eating enough of eating too much. When I am on higher doses I like to just let go of my mind and it is gets really weird. But at the end of the voyage into my mind, everything makes sense. Whether you choose to recognize it or write it off as the shrooms is your choice. Try eating them alone. Maybe try closing your eyes and thinking about things -- that will get you lost in your thoughts. (Though many times my friends and I have just stared at nothing lost in a fantasy world for hours with our eyes open)

I think you're doing fine but you don't realize it. To me that's what the benefit of psychedelics is: to dissolve the boundaries of what used to be you. To look at yourself and your mind from the outside and unattached to your everyday reality. This is how you know yourself. To truly know yourself you have to exist outside yourself for a while. And this allows you to think in ways *you* wouldn't ordinarily. I think you just need to learn to deal with what you are experiencing, it is all good.

During a trip I feel as If somthing in my life and/or mind has changed for the better. And quite a while afterward I can still feel the change.
After long periods of time without shrooming, I am still convinced that there was a change, but cant really remember what it was or "feel" it anymore.

Try to look for hidden meaning behind the visuals. ie. why did I just see a beautifil tropical fish in my carpet, what metaphorical purpose could it mean? is it trying to tell me something? Keep on doing this and soon enough your mind will start piecing together all these theories and ideas about life and everything. At least for me it does.
Hope my tips helped,

Usually, i do the most learning either as i am coming down or after the trip (the next couple of days or weeks) as i 'reconstruct', come back into being my personality and go through the readjustment to reality/ integrating the experience.
Most of the time while i am actually tripping i am just confused by my toes
...or trying to figure out how to manage to roll myself up in a duvet and lie on the floor.

Why not try a lower dose and see what happens. Take enough so that you get some nice visuals, but not so much that you get confused. Once the visuals start working their magic, allow yourself to "get lost" while watching them. I'm not talking about taking a walk in the woods, but rather excluding everything except the warp and weave of the visuals from your mind. It is almost like hypnosis only you are focused in on the visuals instead of in on a swinging watch.

Seuss explained it pretty well but the phrase I like to use for the hypnosis state of being is kind of a mushroom trance. Just let the mushrooms take over and zone out (or in) to the mushroom state of mind. Takes a while to get used to, but you'll know once you get there.

In my opinion, a great deal of the experience of the trip is influenced by the way you perceive your trip.
If you expect mushrooms to make you laugh, you might end up crying.
This may not be the first time you hear about this, but a mushroom trip will totally surprise you (your mind) everytime.
Its something you got to realize, and even if you KNOW that your gonna trip out and certain things will happen that weren't expected. Your mind will act like it wasn't ready for it.
We'll the point of what I'm trying to explain is: You can't really try to control your trip. Its difficult and pretty dangerous. I mean, I would love it if all my mushroom trips were like my first one. But I know if they were like that, I would probably get bored of mushrooms sooner or later. I hope you agree with me on that one.
So as an answer to your question.....there is no way to hold on to your personality. Just give it up. Its called "ego-loss". It can actually be quite fun if you want it to be.

How would I go about choosing a good reality reminder? Go with the flow seems to be the most common advice here, and Im cool with that. All through this forum I read about different objects , toy, etc. that help direct mood. I am trying to direct my mind towards a more intellectual and away from just looking at all the pretty colors. I am after self realization not loss of self.

Alot of the things I read that made me want to try psychadelics were written about acid experiences, would acid be a more usefull tool than mushrooms perhaps?

You cannot have one without the other. However, most of the people that talk about level 5s and egoloss and horrid trips are missing it at well.
Take a low/medium dose and meditate. Don't be afraid of the mirror (figuratively). Don't try for anything specific. Only when you have lost yourself can you find yourself.

I think it helps to NOT think about that, to just roll with all the thoughts in your head. The last few times I've had moments where I confused myself trying to go against my thoughts. You just need to LET GO. Forget about who you are for just one night, you'll find yourself again in the morning.
