Just a quick question, is Amanita Muscaria Var. Americana safe to eat? The Americana is a bright yellow with sparse white specks on it, as it gets older the caps darken to a brownish yellow color. It's gills, stems, and spores are white. To my knowledge it grows in the northern east coast, but thats only where I've seen them. They grow on lawns in groups within the shade of trees. On some lawns they grow next to other varieties, they are usually found not to far from destroying angels. They grow when there are consecutive rainy days with overcast skies and a nice humidity and can last very long in ideal conditions. They are very beautiful specimens to behold. ... ThanX
. By the way i live in the state of New Jersey. I'm not bold/stupid enough to try one to see what might happen, just because the amanita family have some of the most poisonous mushrooms. I would think they're edible because they have the name muscaria in they're name, but still I'm not gonna eat the whole thing. maybe just a bite...
