Pinning wasn't as exciting as I antisipated.

Ok so last 3 weeks or so my 8 cakes have been in my fruiting chamber.

Just about 1 week ago I noticed my first signs of pinning.

These pins didn't look healthy, there was about 2 to start off with on one cake and the caps already looked torn, they didn't look genuinely healthy.

I am 100% I got no contamination on any of my cakes but I am just a bit disappointed with my first attempt.

Today, there are about 20 pins throughout the 8 cakes. One has grown quite big and is pushing for the sky, but that fella also looks kinda fucked up.

I used to look at pictures of cultivators cakes with their whole surface filled with pins that would fruit into beautiful mushrooms.

Maybe it is because I had the print stored (quite well in good temp. and in the dark) for 6 months.

or possibly because I left a light on while they were incubating over night (10 hours or so) and my incubator shot up to 100*F for a few hours.

Or maybe it's because I forgot to fan or mist my mushrooms for the first two weeks of growth.

Well anyway, here is a collated picture of the main mushrooms that are fruiting.

All I can really do is hope for some more pins that aren't derranged.
I think i'm going to go for a casing next time though.

I had the same problem due to high temps IMO. They growed at low speed and with the same aspect.

Regards.

:S my FC is only about 65*F on daily avg.

I have a 40w lamp on shining on it for 20 hours on, 5 hours off.

I was leaning towards delayed pinning due to late fruiting and no air exchange.

Mushrooms are living organisms. If you mistreat them like that, how can you expect healthy fruits?

Thats abuse and neglect.

Remember that what you put into it, is what you get out of it!

I was under the impression that you shouldn't directly mist cakes, is that what you were doing? What humidity are you running in your FC?

you can mist cakes if they've been rolled or double-end cased in verm

the goal is not to mist the cakes themselves but keep the verm that's stuck to them saturated

regardless, FAE is essential to good pinsets and preventing contaminates that thrive in stagnant air, and if he birthed the cakes and let them sit there for 2 weeks without fresh air he's lucky to have mushrooms at all
