Today's boletes: yummy! With pics!
    #6002060 - 08/27/06 05:42 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

Went hunting today (check this thread), mainly because my brother in law was absolutely set on finding some edibles. Boletes are all around, so that wasn't much of a problem, although we didn't find our meal during the first hour or so...anyway, we did manage to spot some boletus badius and a few edulis, enough for the side-dish of a good meal! Also snatched a few corn-cobs from a nearby field, yummy!

Boletes and corn in a basket

Our moderate haul laid out

Sauteed in some butter, flavoured with pepper and salt

Ready to be served

While we finished out meal, we spotted my sister's neigbour coming home, accompanied by a local mushroom-freak. Naturally, I was very keen to find out what they would have brought home, so I went to check. Turned out they had been hunting the same area (actually, they picked one specimen from one of the same spots we visited less than an hour before!) and collected the same species.

Neighbour's haul:

The remains of our own meal can be seen on the right, we brought them to offer the neighbours a taste

Cute little boletes

That's it for now, I'm setting out with my brother in law tomorrow again, see if we can find some more! Thanks for visiting!

Very nice, they look delicious! :tongue2:
All this about boletes is making my mouth water.
So, how is the consistency after they are sauteed? Are they still firm?
I have been drying mine out b/c I've read that they get mealy. Michael Kuo suggests they are better reconstituted, but yours look delish!
And the smell, soo appetizing :drooling:

O, screw it! Your post has broken me, I can't wait any longer, I'm goin to get some right now!

*Whoops, fresh outta fresh ones  O well, I have been saving mine for a soup, looking forward to that.
Your mushrooms still look mighty delicious

For some reason I can't ever conect to koraks.nl to view your pics

Boletus badius are one of my favourites, shame none of those bad boys are up here yet...

Thanks for the replies!

LouiseLouise: after sauteeing, the mushrooms are somewhat soggy and spongy, they lose their firm texture. Nevertheless, they are still delicious  We picked up a batch of about 3lbs today, those are drying right now for later use.

Amatoxin: that's weird, although the server my domain remains on appears to be down sometimes (typically one day every couple of months), I haven't experienced any problems lately.
