My vision of America..

.. is going back to the Confederacy.... minus the whole slavery and racism part.
The nation is so divided. We have so many different opinions be so many people... Everyone is sure they're right when in fact, we don't know squat.
I believe in a federal gov't to provide a few basic things we need such as a strong united military for self defense.. but I am against the feds making laws that the states could easily decide on their own (welfare, gay marriage, gun control, abortion, separation of church and state, immigration, etc).
I think we should repeal 95% of our legislation and give it **ALL*** back to the states. Each state sets up their own gov't as they wish. If a state wants Christianity to rull all.. so be it. More power to them. If you don't like it... leave. If your state supports more personal freedoms that may be considered immoral.. so be it.. move to another state... You have 49 other to chose from.
This may be detrimental to our future... but at the same time... it may be a great thing. The founding of our gov't was totally innovative. Rules were being made up as we went along and no one knew if we would survive or fail.
Universal health care might be a good thing. It might be a terrible idea in the long run. We're too afraid as a whole to try it... so if we have 50 individual states making their own decisions instead of letting 100 jerks on capital hill making a decision for 300,000,000 (sheesh.. like 100 people could really know whats best for 1/3 of a billion people) then that state will be an experiment. If it's a success, then we ALL benefit from it. If it's a failure.. we'll know for sure and instead of the entire country crashing and burning from it's failure... we'll be able to rebound.
Just my two cents... about why I vote libertarian... Give the rights back to the local lawmakers! They know the problems facing their own people.. not some fat ass pill popping senator 3000 miles away from the people he governs.

I definitely agree that decentralization of power is the way to go. I don't know if I'd go so far as going back to a confederacy, but power needs to be more localized.

I just think it's ridiculous that almost all of the laws made for 300,000,000 people are made by maybe 400-500 people in Washington DC that were born with silver spoons in their mouths. These people have no idea what it's like to really be human or to have to work for a living. They don't know what it's like to live paycheck to paycheck, or to not be able to afford a neccessary surgery, or to be racially profiled, etc, etc.
There is absolutely no reason to have most of the laws we have no being decided by the FEDS. The local lawmakers are more in touch with their own people, problems, and resources and these lawmakers are more accessable to the people they represent. They should be the ones making the decisions.
If we continue with our current government... Then you have to take the term "PUBLIC SERVANT" seriously.. You should only be in your position if you're trying to make a better America. There's no reason a lawmaker OR EVEN A PRESIDENT should be making more than 100,000 dollars.

I would wonder how we would decide on the usage of the federal forces. I think, eventually, the states would go to war with themselves over disagreements on issues pertaining to all of the states.
 Peace.

True... but I think we might have more success if we go back to small state run gov't than the way we're going now.

I agree that the trend for power will inevitably be decentralized. USA will take a lot longer but the effects will probably be more devestating. If you'd like to see some examples of trend setting decentralization then check out some examples.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primeiro_Comando_da_Capital PCC a prison gang turned non-state organization that is becoming more and more sophisticated. They have been giving the government a Helluva a fight and are likely to win their objectives.
War and society will move to a more decentralized role because it will be removed from the constraint of beauracracy.Where organizations can be more mobile and efficient because of Cohesion.

You're probably right. For any major change in gov't, something traumatic is going to have to happen.

This would probably save America, but what are the chances of it happening? You'd need a lot of people behind you with support, but since the average american doesn't even know what the bill of rights is, I don't think it will go anywhere.
