I spent my weekend in Buena Vista, Colorado, as an instructor at the annual King Boletus Festival there. It's a charity event to raise money for the Museum there.
Saturday it rained and snowed on us almost all day, but I didn't care because I was in the woods and finding mushrooms with lots of people who had the same interest.
Sunday we had the last foray, up at about 11,500 feet on Cottonwood Pass. The scenery is lovely. This view is toward Mt Princeton.

Here are a few mushrooms I photographed because they looked like they'd make pretty photos:
First we have Gymnopus acervatus, a near lookalike for Flammulina velutipes.

Next we have a nice yellow coral. These guys were about 8 inches high and in clusters in a line about 10 feet long.

These pink corals were less common, but in a cluster the same size as the large yellow coral clusters.

Finally, we have a nice specimen of Calvatia booniana, a giant puffball. This particular one was about twice as big as an adult's head and weighed (I'm guessing) close to 10 pounds.

Personally, I collected about 20 pounds of Boletus edulis, which was donated to the cause, and went to make pizzas which were consumed by all.
Happy mushrooming!

Very nice finds Toxic. I'm sure that you have more pictures to share with us on this foray. Can you post any nice CO Amanita pictures?

baycafe, sorry to disappoint, but I didn't take any photos of the Amanitas. I've taken so many that I wanted to get some of the other beautiful mushrooms.
CureCat, that puffball was only a day old and in prime edible condition. It was cut up and distributed among those interested who then took it home and ate it. I can certainly appreciate the idea of kicking a puffball that big, though. It was several times larger than a soccer ball.

That is so cool ToxicMan.
I think most of us have a list of things we would like to do before our lives are over. One of those things on my list is to go mushroom hunting with ToxicMan. I have a sister in Colorado who I have not seen for a couple of years. Now I have two reasons to make the journey west. Hopefully in the near future I can spend a day as your student.

OK, here's a couple more photos. Actually, I didn't take very many photos this year. We had 60 people signed up to go up in the mountains and only about 6 of us to try to teach them stuff. At times it was a bit like herding cats. I enjoyed it all.
This is a nice bunch of Clavaria purpurea. They were among the biggest specimens I've ever seen, some of them well over 6 inches tall.

These are some Tree Ears Auricularia aricula.

Unfortunately, that pretty well covers the photos I took this year. I gotta remember to take more.
Happy mushrooming!
