First timer Help Please

I know this might sound kind of dumb. But i making cakes with vermiculite and rice flour. When i let it colonize does it colonize in total darkness. Please help.

Well im pretty new at this as well but..
Yeah, I believe you should have the jars in a dark place.

You can put them back into the box the jars came in. Then put it in the closet and forget it. You can take them out and expose them to light when they get most of the way done if you are going to fruit them as cakes.
