Pretty pictures part 3
    #6002042 - 08/27/06 05:31 PM (14 years, 8 months ago)

Previous threads with pics from the same area:

So this would be part 3...

Hiked near my sister's village with my family today and found a couple of nice species. The season is really prolific this year, it's very enjoyable! So I thought I'd share the fun

1. Lots of amanita fulvia popping up all around. Didn't take any home for consumption; amanita is not a genus I take my chances in (yet...)
Popping out of the egg...

2....and growing up

3.

4. Illustrative of the amanita genus' deceptiveness: the very poisonous amanita pantherina is easily (and quite often) mistaken for amainta rubescens (see my earlier photo threads) by the untrained eye. They grow in the same habitats in the same conditions, right next to each other!

5. A potentially lethal member of the genus: amanita phalloides var. alba

6. Some cute coral fungi: calocera cornea

7. First-time find for me: judas' ears (hirneola auricula-judea)

8. Totally weird species, perhaps somebody recognizes it?

9. Judging habitat, location and general appearance, I'd say this would be lactarius quietus

10. As fragile as they are tiny: micromphale perforans

11. Unidentified russulas, growing under beech

That's it for now, we also found some nice boletes, but I'll open a separate topic for that story and the accompanying photos...

NICE pics!!! hawt! :sunny:

For some reason, the questionable photo makes me think of a doped up/brain damaged laccaria. Maybe it is just the stems giving me flashbacks.

Thanks! I doubt the gnarly ones are lactarias, but I didn't really study them very closely, so who knows!

I'll definitely check on your amanita thread, get it up

Well, they closely match the descriptions and photos I know of lactarius quietus, see for example here, but they could of course be a related species. I know for sure they are in the lactarius genus.

Evan, I use a Canon EOS 20d, in this case with a Canon EF 24-70/2.8L lens and two flash units, a Speedlite 580EX (master) and a 420EX (slave, handheld.)

LouiseLouise: thanks
