pups grow quite fast, even peyote pups do, after they develop fully into the cactus they get their normal grow rate, wait till more pups come out of your stock... you will get a beautiful multicolumned specimen

Why did you plant it horizontally?  What is the advantage to this?  And what do you mean by pups?

As the lightbulb goes off in my head.........
Horizontal of course! I have a foot long cutting I got from a chica in arizona that is almost 9inches wide. Its from a 15 year old cactus. I've been trying to figure out a way to plant the big ol' guy without limiting its potential. If I were to cut the guy into say 3-4 sections and root them all horizontally I could have a few 5 inch pups per section come fall. Thanx for the epiphany PC!!
