Hey, Sorry to hear about that. Sounds like way to much water. Your soil may not be draining enough..Miracle Soil just doesn't provide good drainage. The brown on the leaves is the first sign, and if the stem is rotting from the base....Pretty much over with. You could try re-potting in dif. soil, maybe potting soil with rocks at the bottom 1-2 inches...that's to make sure the pan underneath the pot doesn't rot the roots...Look when you transplant it...if it looks like it's at all rotted, prob. too late. But stick it in there anyway, you might get lucky Peace and G/L

hmmm...so that is why I lost one of my remainning two plants. I guess I need to incorporate better drainage before I lose my other one.

Yeah, excellent drainage is essential. I started my next cycle today, look for more in 3-4 weeks. Peace

Be careful with the rubbing alcohol & castille soap, I tried this and it killed one of my plants. I'm assuming that the booze/soap mix got into the soil & was picked up by the roots but I really don't know. On mine the leaves just started going brown & falling off after I sprayed, I suppose it could have been the wee flies I was spraying for (as an on-line Salvia Grow guide recommended the booze/soap mix) but don't know. Let us know how you get on.

StroFun said: also the compost pile has just received a small amount ashes, charcoal wood, and coffee grounds and regularly gets grass clippings and leafes in the fall, and a little more sand. I will probably mix peat moss in with the soil and then check PH and adjust as needed before using, more ash to be added in a couple weeks...
Would throwing a worm in the pot be a bad idea? with a large pot of course
Putting a worm in a pot=pointless unless you like killing worms,or its a HUGE pot.
Putting worms in your compost= faster and more aerated composting and happy worms. It is best if your pile is already decomposing not really new.Plus they'll breed in and near your compost I have been gathering night crawlers for fishing by digging down into my compost for years. There's a good link here but it is for indoors, outdoors is just lazier.http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/3796874

my plant is also not doing so well. The tips of the leafs *were* brown, but I was misting my plant and the mist made the brittle leafs fall off. IDK what to do about that. Luckily it still has 2 leafs about 1 1/2 inch long, and a couple baby laefs, but the old leafs keep falling off.

This is the top of my 5-foot-tall mother, who is @ 3 years old.
She is grown in 15 gallon(+/-) pot, with Foxfarm soil. A bottom layer of rocks that is about 4" high ensures good drainage, and I have learned to go easy on the water. Mist when she tells me to. The room is brightly lit with skylights and sliding glass doors. No direct sunlight, really, maybe 2 hours in summer. Peace
