So i found a small yellow mushroom growing in my friends front yard, in a little spot where cacti is growing. Soon after a few more popped up so now there are about 4 of these interesting looking yellow mushrooms in that area. After little search on the internet i've come to the conclusion that it is lepiota lutea!

They are found most often in potted plants. Your description sounds right. Good job on the ID.

The "official" current name is Leucocoprinus birnbaumii, a real mouthful.
