In the spirit of sharing, list a few recent discoveries, or unsung items in the realm of entertainment that you've come across.

Album

Alice in Ultraland by The Anonymous Androgynous - the ultimate homage to psychedelic rock of the late 60s/early seventies. If you like Ravi Shankar, Floyd & Syd Barrett, Jefferson Airplane, Space Oddity era Bowie, Led Zeppelin. It links up quite nicely if you play it as an alternative soundtrack to a certain Disney film.

also

The Isness by The Anonymous Androgynous - their previous album, not as good but still quite fun.

Film

The Last Waltz - I've only just seen this. Having never really given The Band the time of day I must say I was knocked out and will definitely be searching out some of their albums. A fantastic concert film that nearly gives Stop Making Sense a run for it's money (in terms of energy rather than visual scope I might add).

TV

Arrested Development - I don't really watch much TV so I missed this when it was shown. A cool quirky show which actually made me laugh out loud (a rare occurrence for TV for a long time). Smartly written with plots which seem to curl back on themselves and some oddball touches I must admit I'm hooked and will be hiring (hey I'm cheap) the rest of the series.

Book

VALIS by Philip K Dick - Dick's best book after A Scanner Darkly, very much in the same tone. The observation of a man viewing his split personality spiralling into insanity. This would make a great head-fuck movie if someone could work out how to... oh read it and see!

also

The Dumas Club by Arturo Perez-Reverte

The Book the film The Ninth Gate was based on. Much better than the book (which cuts out over half the plot!) a real page turner.

Avoid Avoid Avoid

Film - What the Bleep Do We Know: some interesting nuggetts are immersed in a jumble of utter twaddle and a dreadful "dramatic" which numbs the grey matter.

Album - Storms over Still Water by Mostly Autumn: a band trumpeted as Floyd/prog rock like. Utterly abysmal.

Album
- Minus the Bear - Self Titled - A nice easy listening band, I recently heard them

Film
- A Clockwork Orange - I LOVE this movie, and I love the book even more. It's so damn good. The movie is entertaining, but the book passes the message on to the audience much better. If you make something/somebody be good against their will, is it really good?

TV
- Weeds - I love this show. Damn good.
Book

-Battle Royale - By Koushun Takami - I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BOOK. - Opressive dictatorship government that rules over Japan. To weed out supporters of democracy they institute a game, where every so often a random group of students(around 16 - 17 years old) and take them to a secluded and government controlled island. They then give the kids instructions to the 'game' give the kids duffle bags with some supplies and a random weapon and send them on their way. :P It gets better. See the movie too!
