hello,
it is now official,
Brazilian illicit drug users will not go to prison anymore, instead there will be alternative penalties.

plus brazil is at good temperatures all year...I could grow my own mushrooms outside then...or just go and buy them, man Brazil will kick ass....does this mean that drugs like LSD, cocaine, mescaline, heroin, etc... will all be decriminalized and readily available?

I wish the US would follow some of the policies they have in countries in Europe. I think that if the government relaxed drup laws the crime rate would drop some.

Exactly.. right now is a prolonged term of what happened during the depression.

Either way it's more fair.

the drugs were not decriminalized, but no more jail nor bail for users, as for the dealers it's going to be a bit harder on them.
although a small leap, it's in the right direction...

Many adults in Brazil believe cannabis should remain illegal, according to a poll by Datafolha published in Folha de Sao Paulo. 79 per cent of respondents think smoking marijuana should remain a crime.
According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime’s (UNODC) annual World Drug Report, marijuana remains the most widely consumed drug in the planet.
A 2001 UNODC report stated that one per cent of Brazilians between the ages of 12 and 64 consumes marijuana at least once a year. In 2004, the percentage of marijuana users between the ages of 10 and 18 years in the South American country fell to 6.4 per cent, from a high of 7.6 per cent in 1997.
In June 2005, Brazilian culture minister Gilberto Gil revealed that he smoked marijuana for years, adding, "I believe that drugs should be treated like pharmaceuticals, legalized, although under the same regulations and monitoring as medicines."

Hi ANTS,
this law has been approved on August 23rd, and is only going to be effective on October 8th, that's when you will probably be getting more press about it.
