Advertising runs the world and the US Runs the world and the US is also run by advertisers..
SOoooo the next big thing will be when TV/Cable is combined with the power of Internets marketing abilities.
The commercials you watch on your "local" TV will soon become tailored to you based on your choices both on the internet and what your viewing patterns are.
If you watch alto of football, more specifically a certain team then commercials will be tailored to your desires.
If your a drinker and like a specific beer then your grocery shopping records can also be used to promote specials and look alike beers branded to your taste. ALL streamed straight to you TV during alloted personalized advertising slots via the FCC.
Big Brother Is Watching and he wants YOUR money.

Hallelujiah!
Custom-fit commercials are the way God intended it
-------------------- I want to talk to you about appearance. Most of you dress like shit. I don't know what your financial situation is like right now but you need to buy at least one decent suit. There is a minimum level of aesthetic professionalism that we have here. In a couple of months you'll be able to outfit your whole closet, but for now just get something to hold you over. There's an important phrase that we use here and I think it's time you all learned it. "Act as if". Do you understand what that means? Act as if you are the fucking president of this firm. Act as if you have a nine inch cock. Act as if. To do this properly you need to at least look the part. So go get dressed.

If I am forced to watch a commercial, I would much rather watch a commercial for something that I am interested in rather than a commercial for hemorrhoid medication or female hygiene products (for example).

When the first TIVO boxes came out they had an option to cut out the comercials.
That got squashed quick and now theirs no way to get around them. You can fast forward through them but some day they may find a way to stop that also.
Advertising and Oil. The two biggest money makers in the world.
With digital cable and all the new technologies its just a matter of time before a marketing file is created for your home TV just as it is done on your PC.

Its here, and it has a name, its called Triple-Play.
The idea is you get you TV, Internet and Phone service from the same place. Either down DSL, cable or fiber.
The data gathering potential is huge. Some existing offerings also provide a mobile phone which is cheap to use while at home, and credit cards that give you a discount on your service package when you use them.
So they have your TV viewing, Internet, phone and spending habits, from which they can determine your political, religious and even sexual leanings for one.
The people you associate via virtue of who you call, where you go by virtue of the cells you phone travels through and social and financial data through the credit card.
This data can then be data mined, and sold to interested parties. Its value to commercial and political organizations is huge.
In the US there are few personal data protection laws, so check that contract for its privacy clauses.
