How much longer will we have a troop level of 120,000 or greater? How much longer until there will be protest like during Vietnam? Will there be such protests at all?

I'm guessing that troop levels will drop below 100,000 within the next year.
I'm guessing no more major protests, at least not on the scale that we saw in 2003-2004.
I'm guessing Bush will do everything in his power to establish a roadmap to a permanent Iraqi base with 10,000+ military personnel.

i cant really give you a straight answer...but the neocons mean to start WWIII..and their ability to control events precludes them from ever being elected out of power...so the answer to the title ? depends on three(3) possible outcomes of the world war ..
a) the neocons score a decisive..prolly quick..victory... b) "mission accomplished" ..the whole world turns into iraq following a genocidal nuclear first strike from the neocons... c) the US is utterly destroyed along with its neocon regime...
so the answer in cases a) and b) is "centuries" (and not just in iraq either)..and in case b)..WWIII actually continues all that time...in case c)..OTOH..it would be much shorter...

What will probably happen is that the Democrats will pullout in 2009 after winning the White House in 2008. No other countries will want to go to Iraq to take over security detail, so whatever is left of the current Iraqi government will probably be overthrown and replaced with once again another despotic, fundamentalist leaning regime, either Sunni or Shi'ite. Since no one will be happy, civil war will continue for years on end between religious sects in Iraq. It will go down in history as one of the major blunders in American foreign policy. It was a doomed venture from the start. No war in recent history has ever generated so much opposition before the first bullet was fired.

You assume fair play... the terrorist attack in late summer/early fall of 2008 will keep the neocons in office. Damn, I'm starting to sound like Alex Jones. *shiver*

I have to agree, I think something awful will happen to take the focus away from Iraq for a few years. As far as us leaving I do not think we will leave, at least not in my lifetime. They are building permanent bases, that suggests to me that we are there for the long haul. The CIA or SAS will probably incite a civil war so that they can just say we are needed there for security reasons. As has been said previously peoples protests wont become rowdy until their own lives are threatened in the form of a draft. I think if I was drafted I would go into hiding or something, what would the rest of you do?

10,000 years at least, maybe 100,000 years.
