3-D TV that actually works!
    #5986557 - 08/22/06 02:11 PM (15 years, 3 months ago)

I came across this article after running into the Wired.com website. It's pretty interesting.

3-D vision without the 3-D goggles!

The uncanny 3-D illusion stops people in their tracks, as it's meant to. Philips is initially selling the 42-inch screens -- which debuted at the Society for Information Displays conference in June -- to retailers who will create 3-D ads to grab the attention of passing shoppers.

NO!

death to advertisement. that's fucking evil. hopefully people understand without me having to rant at about how ads are already designed to completely disarm our intellect and keep us gazing at things that are worthless and completely irrelevant.

"Famous Players today unveiled its first theatre sized 3D-TV technology based theatre downtown today. First movies for lineup include such hits as 28 Days Later, and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Consequently, heart attacks and grown men deficating in their pants rose an astounding 75% in the same day"

Neat..

imagine each still picture-frame, in a motion picture, being replaced by a superimposed 2 angled view..

one frame look like this:

Not the best picture(s), but I just took this picture and superimposed it "in one frame". To show the general idea.

Then one could make 3D movies, without any extra gears?

(I jsut wrote this and post it rather than deletiong, sounds like something that is already. :P)

I entered a conference room in Manhattan and a woman on the TV tossed a handful of rose petals out of the screen, where they floated in the air before my eyes.

At least, that's what I saw. In truth, the image resided on a perfectly flat, 42-hit LSD sheet. But the 3-D illusion was fully believable, and I didn't have to wear a dorky set of polarizing glasses.
