SPREAD THE WORD... » Blog this » Bulletin this Hello, brothers and sisters!
First of all, this event is NOT a trip to Washington DC (although if you live near the Capitol or can afford it, I say GO FOR IT). Instead, I'm suggesting an easy way for you to take part in something that could change the world by visiting the LOCAL BRANCH OFFICE of your state Senator (which is usually only a couple miles away from where you live).
Secondly, the point of this event is to get MEDIA COVERAGE on the issue. So even if your Senators support Net Neutrality, we have to get them on camera SAYING SO (that way if they backpedal later, we have EVIDENCE). In addition, we need to raise awareness to the MILLIONS of U.S. Citizens who don't even realize this struggle is going on!
All we have to do is get about 100 people to visit each branch office of each state Senator and get some media coverage on it. We should also bring cameras from home, document as much as we can and upload it to www.youtube.com
I know it might be tough for some of you all to make it, what with work and school and family obligations. But I honestly, sincerely believe that there has never been a more important moment to stand up to corporations and to the corrupt government and to say "I DO NOT GIVE PERMISSION FOR THIS!" in a way that can actually make a difference. Non-violent protest is the only way we're going to get this country on the right track and here's your chance to make a difference!
-----------------------------------
Many of you have, at one point or another, asked me what you can do to help make the world a better place. Many of you have also expressed fears that you are "just one person" or "only a kid", so nobody will listen to you.
Well I'm here to tell you that you are NOT just one person, you are MANY!
It is time for the silent majority to be heard! Silence is a fragile thing - one loud noise and it is gone! Let us now make a noise they can not ignore! Let us join together to secure our last bastion of hope!
LET US SECURE NET NEUTRALITY!

It is no secret, at least to those of us who are progressive and use our heads for more than hat racks, that the mainstream media has been bought and muzzled by corporate interests. It is a sad state of affairs when some of the best sources are Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, whose reports air on Comedy Central "after shows about puppets making prank phone calls" (their own words).
The internet is our last refuge, our last stand against the forces of greed and apathy. Unless we do what we know is right and maintain Net Neutrality, the internet will be bought and sold to the highest bidders, to the rich. And the rest of us, the average people, those just trying to make a living and raise a family in this increasingly insane world, will be left out in the cold.
Independent research, political dissent, environmental activism, alternative journalism, non-traditional commerce, music/movie exchanges, cheap e-mail and messenger communications, everything that makes the internet great, will just be...gone.
Those of you who are young, try to imagine your lives without the internet, or having to pay extortion-rate fees to access it. Try to imagine how fundamentally your lives would be changed for the worse. You have to know in your hearts that you are NOT "just kids," that you are the future of this nation, of this world.
And if you want a future worth living in, you have to take a stand right here, right now.
ALL OF US DO.
We have to secure Net Neutrality, and we have to make the mainstream media take notice of us. We've already been writing letters and making phone calls to our Senators, and we can't afford to let up now. But it's not enough.
WE NEED TO HOLD A NATIONAL "VISIT YOUR SENATORS' BRANCH OFFICES" DAY, AND IT HAS TO BE SOON.
Already, Congress has passed legislation to privatize the internet and unless we get a groundswell going, the Senate will vote the same way and sell ALL OF US OUT.
They're coming back from recess on September 5th, so we don't have long. I suggest Friday, September 8th to coordinate our efforts. All Senators have branch offices NEAR WHERE YOU LIVE, and most of them are closed on the weekends. So if we HAVE to take a day off from work or school to gain support for this, we might as well do it on a Friday!
Friends, we have to show up at our Senators' branch offices across the nation and non-violently voice our opinions, and we must have media coverage of some kind, any kind, to spread the word to our brothers and sisters who have not been enlightened yet.
Every major change we want to see happen in the world stems from securing Net Neutrality.
World peace. The end of corruption in the government. Environmental protection.
EVERYTHING.
Sound off below if you are willing to help so I can notify you of new developments, and join the official "Save the Internet" group so you can help coordinate!
Brothers and sisters, this is our last inch. And if we don't stop it, it's going to be sold for so terribly little. It's all we have left in this place. It's the very last inch of us.
BUT WITHIN THAT INCH, WE CAN BE FREE.
If you DO plan on joining us, please watch this video first so you can get an idea of what an AFFECTIVE method of non-violent protest is.
