English passengers engage in some "profiling" of their own...
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=401419&in_page_id=1770
For those readers not familiar with British phrasing, "Asian" in this context means someone of Indian, Bangladeshi or Pakistani ethnicity. "Jumper" is what North Americans would call a pullover sweater.
I suspect this incident will trigger some lively discussion here. *pulls up chair, munches popcorn*

What are the legalities of something like this happening in the US. It seems like it would be bad for an airline to deny someone a flight based on their ethnicity...but when passengers are walking, they will most likely have to remove the people for the greater good.
If something like this were to happen in the US, would the men have a lawsuit?

Civil Guard police and airport security staff, approached the two men and took their passports.
Half an hour later, police returned and escorted the two Asian passengers off the jet.
I wonder what happened in that half hour. If they used that time to do a background check, and came up with any sort of info that would cast further suspicion on these men, I'd completely agree with the pilot. Even if the pilot just the observed the men himself for a while, then booted them, I think I'd be cool with it. But if no check was made prior to their removal, and the decision was made based solely on the damning evidence observed by the passengers ("dear god, they're speaking in a foreign language that I'm going to guess is Arabic" "he's checking his watch at the airport - detain him"), then it was extremely rude.
If I'm reading this right, it was the pilot's decision, not the cops? I don't know the first thing about British law, but if this was the case, then I don't think it should be at all illegal. The pilot of a privately owned airline should be given the legal authority to toss out anyone he/she likes, period. However, if it was government agents making the decision, and doing so without a proper background check, I think that's something else.
my 2 cents

It is the decision of the pilot. He's the man in the hot seat in situations like that, and his decision is final.

A winnable lawsuit? Depends where the lawsuit is heard. Some California juries would probably find in favor of the two guys, I'm sure.

its just scared people acting irrationally. however if i was on a plane id be scared of arabs more than anyone else. i know most arabs arent terrorists...but im afraid of flying as it is...i think id be freaked out by 2 dudes babbling in arabic. i do feel bad for legitimite arabs though. the bad apples keep messing with planes, its going to get to the point no one will want to travel with them

The few ruin it for the many. Such is life, sadly.
The many helped ruin it for themselves. Dancing in the streets, remaining quiet when they should have spoke out, silence after bombings..... they fucked themselves.
Had the many stood up for what's right, perhaps they wouldn't be in the position they now are.

The best thing for us to do in the West is to have everyone register their religion (or lack of religion) with the government and have everyone wear a badge or carry an RFID tag carrying that information. Any muslim who lies and says he belongs to another religion when he hasn't converted or become an apostate should get the death penalty. All muslims can then be segregated from non-muslims if need be, ie. on planes, buses, etc. and/or muslims could be searched more carefully.
