The Vase
    #597750 - 04/03/02 04:55 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

One day last year I was quite upset because my bicycle had been stolen. I grumbled internally about how many times I have had things taken from me by strangers, but never did anyone unknown to me mysteriously give me something. It ALWAYS went in the negative. So much for karma and balance.

While reading a book while reclining on my futon, suddenly and for no apparent reason I felt compelled to go into the kitchen. I lay down on the kitchen floor on my back and contorted myself so that I could reach into an unused lower corner kitchen cabinet. Feeling around inside I discovered a cubby-hole off to the side. Further exploration revealed an object.

I removed a gaily-wrapped shoebox with some serious heft. A present for me? Opening it I found a beautiful lead crystal vase.

I guessed that it was a wedding present that the previous apartment owner had hidden and forgot about.

Later I put the box back in the cubby-hole and told 3 different people at different times that there was something of value hidden in the cabinet. Even knowing it was there, not one of the three found it.

Hmmmm...

I'd rather have the bicycle back, myself.
Still, it beats a sharp stick in the eye.

Put flowers in it.

It is a reminder that even in a skeptic's world, sometimes the door to the mysterious opens.

I was actually in the middle of a very interesting chapter of some murder mystery when the urge overcame me. It was strange that I had no thoughts. I didn't ask myself what I was doing or hoping to find. I just did it. There was no logical reason for the search and no goal in mind.

It is a beautiful vase, maybe 14" high. I have no idea of it's value. Friends have guessed anywhere from $50 to $300 depending on the manufacturer,

So the inventor of the vase, invented them to hold flowers? I just dont understand. What is the true purpose of these useless pots.

They can be used to hold liquid, such as water.. in which to drink from as well.

Why must something have a purpose? Is it not
enough that it simple is?

Not the same experience but along these lines.......I had been looking for an expensive piece of camera equipment in my apartment and was very frustrated at not being able to locate it. I turned the house upside down and was still not able to find it. As I sat in a chair and asked for "help" I suddenly experienced a kind of X-ray vision and saw the item in the back of a cabinet "behind" some things that I didn't move out when I checked the location. I opened the cabinet, moved the materials and there it was.
Now if I play a bit sceptical .....I might have just tucked the location of the item in the back of my head, but I still don't understand the "X-ray" vision, unless than was my unconscious minds way of telling me where to look......

On the lighter side.....I didn't know the location of the vase either.......(smile)......
