    #5976108 - 08/18/06 02:57 PM (17 years, 5 months ago)

Just got it shipped today!

But I need help with how to power the thing.  I'm an idiot when it comes to such things.  What do i need to do?  It came with no cords.

First, make sure Paul is still shipping them with the Dayton 4C566A two speed motor.

Second, go buy a heavy duty three wire, 120V power cord, or cannibalize a heavy duty extension cord. Buy a 1/2" 'romex connector' to act as a strain relief where the wire enters the electrical box on the motor. This gives mechanical protection to the power cord so that if you pull or trip over the cord, it doesn't pull the splices apart.

GREEN WIRE from your power cord goes to the chassis. There should be a green screw to stick it under. Don't skip this step. The ground is what keeps you from getting shocked if something else goes wrong and/or shorts out.

WHITE WIRE goes to the white wire from the motor.

BLACK WIRE from your power cord goes to the black wire from the motor.

Tape up or otherwise insulate the RED wire from the motor. You won't use it. The red wire is for low speed operation. You want high speed(black wire) with that 1/5 HP motor.

It's Dayton model 4YJ32. Does this matter?

According to my Grainger catalog, it looks like the 4YJ32 is a single speed motor, so disregard taping up the red wire. Just hook green to ground, white to white, and black to black. Be sure to make your connections mechanically and electrically tight. A loose connection will heat up and cause it to short out.
