Most of us here have a habit of taking things to extremes, myself included. I think that, in most cases, this is a horrible tactic, as I can't think of many social or economic trends that have been taken to far extremes based on logic alone.
I'm sure we all have a few examples that irk us. I've got a bunch, but 4 stand out at the moment.
Republicans on Gun Control "Sure, maybe it's okay with you if the government confiscates your SAR-21. But if you let that happen, you won't have a leg to stand on when they ban steak knives. According to them, it's a deadly weapon."
Republicans on Euthanasia "Hey, I'm sympathetic to a guy who has, and will spend his life in, constant and excruciating pain. Lou Gehrig's Disease is no joke. Still, if we're gonna let physicians help these people end their lives, where's it going to end? My son could be brutally killed by our family doctor when I bring him in for a checkup."
Democrats on Profiling "Instead of focusing on the war in Iraq, our national security concerns should be focused on increased airport security. And our new security measures must be applied to everyone, from an affluent female WASP attorney to a young shifty-eyed Arab man. If we use any discrimination in our search for terrorists, next thing you know, we're dragging all Muslim-American into internment camps and torturing them by ripping up $4 copies of the Qu'ran."
Democrats on Wiretapping "1984 has finally arrived. Compared to the rest of the world, America now has zero privacy. If we let the government listen in on terror-related international calls, we're opening the door for them to read all of our mail, strip-search us at DWI checkpoints and implant GPS trackers into our skulls."

"allow federal funding for stem cell research and sooner or later we're going to have 'fetus farms' where women are impregnated for the express purpose of using fetuses for parts"
"recognize unions between two people of the same sex and soon we'll have to recognize marriages to animals and pet rocks and stuff"
