To ease a mind...

I was wondering if you could trip on a bad mushroom or if the poisonous ones don't contain the active compound.

I hope you're not writing this because you have eaten some random mushroom. There are likely some species of mushrooms that have hallucinogenic and toxic chemicals at the same time, though I don't know if any have been identified. But given the presence of both psilocybin and deadly toxins in different species within genera (ie conocybe and inocybe) it is possible. This seems to be a roundabout question though - what are you really trying to ask?
Eating random unidentified mushrooms is much more likely to make you sick or die than make you trip.

I was pretty sure it was a cubbie, but my stomache has been upset since I ate it. The veil was almost totally gone and I was wondering if maybe I had it mistaken (since I didn't pick it). I only ate half of it but it was very fresh. I also ate some I was sure of the night before. ID would be... 4in diameter cap, light copper to whiter on top, gills were fresh closely spaced, bruised blue on edge of cap, and gills gave off very dark ink just from handling them.

What state was it found in? What type of habitat? What color was the cap, stem, and gills? Was there any bruising? Did you feel any effects?
Gills gave off dark ink? That sounds like an inky cap, not a cubie. Many inky caps can make you extremely ill to your stomache if you consume even small amounts of alcohol within several days of eating the mushroom.
Do you have any specimens left? If so can you take a picture and post it?

Found in Mississippi Cow field Cap: flat on top, light brown in the middle fading whiter on the outside Stem: Didn't get a good look at it but it was 6in long and very light brown (same color as cap) Bruising: I pinched the edge of the cap and it turned blue almost immediately Effects: I tripped... other than that nothing abnormal, if any nausea it was small only after smoking Gills: tightly spaced, gray, edges dark after touching them, the ink I was talking about was just stains on my fingers, no actual liquid.
Actually I did drink a good bit the next night, but conditions didn't worsen much after... Now it has been 48 hours since I took it.

Sounds like you are probably fine then. A gilled mushroom from a gulf coast cattle pasture that bruises blue and makes you trip (did you really trip, or were you just hoping so much that you kind of imagined it?) is really unlikely to be poisonous. Many people get some digestive upset from eating shrooms. I've thrown up many times.
Sounds like you probably had a cope or a cube and you probably don't need to be worried.

Yes I really tripped, did not sleep all night. Thanks for the replies, was just a little worried since I usually pick my own and it was the first time to get it from someone else.
