Casing Layer Depth Question
    #5970533 - 08/16/06 06:57 PM (17 years, 5 months ago)

I find it kind of hard to accurately and evenly spread the casing layer over the colonized substrate...

Its hard to tell how deep it is in different spots, especially towards the middle where you can't see through the side of the casing tray... And tomorrow Ill be using metal casing trays, which will make it even harder

Anyone have any tips or suggestions?

cut strips of paper to the thickness you want your casing depth

tape them end to end so they form "O"s

lay down sideways on your substrate and add casing mix using the height of the paper O's as a guide

remove paper O's when finished.

Use a sanitized metal canning jar ring, as a depth gauge.
