People show tats off almost to get approval from others on their own permanent decision.
I can't liken that to a hat.
See, now you're just making a blanket statement. What about the 50 year old mother who gets a tat in a non-visible place that's just for her? Or what about the person with scars from a horrible past that would like to beautify it with permanent body art?
I'm sorry but you lost lost all credibility with that ignorant blanket statement.
lets go ask any tattoo artist how many 50 year old mothers he has come in compared against the 16-24 age group.
When you get a tattoo, you are trying to become an object of interest through purely physical means, and so you dont seem so shallow, you tack on some completely bullshit meaning to it. I dont see why anyone would need a tattoo to remind them of the duality of life, or God, or christ consciousness.
When it comes down to it, your true being and personality will reveal you for what you are and believe, not whether or not you have cool shoes, or something permanantly drawn on you.

I plan on gettin the lyrics of a led zep song which has been very imspiring to me. Its from Going to California:
"Standin on a hill of my mountain of my dreams, tellin myself its not as hard as it seems"
Ive been sketching out how I want it to look but nothing seems to work, hopefully the tatoo artist can't help me figure out how I want it. I also am having trouble deciding where I want it. Originally I wanted it on the top of my left foot but I guess it fades faster down there??

How am i being ignorant, I already said i can understand people having tattoos that mean something to themselves. But if you got a tat within those ideas why would you feel the need to show it off..
You likened it to having a hat,, whether that hat is sentimental or not. I know where your coming from but i don't see as many threads about sentimental items as i do tattoos,, leads me to think that theres more reason behind why someone would show off a tattoo than that person being sentimental or fashionable, tho i do realize those reasons are relevant. But even in those cases most people want some approval for their decision,, if they dont get it they may end up feeling bad !
