This is my first tat. The eye in the center represents the source of creation -- "God," if you will. The rest is emanating out of the center, representing the process of creation. I used eyes to represent that what we are fundamentally is consciousness.
The meaning of this is hard to explain. It's vaguely based around a cross design, but I made it curved, to make it look somewhat like the visuals I get on acid. It represents Christ consciousness. It also resembles the compass on a map, to remind me not to lose my way.
When I save up enough money, I plan on expanding it into a full chestpeice by adding a dove surrounded by flames, representing the holy spirit. This is to commemorate a religious experience I had.

I think they look good, though i can tell my opinion means little to you because they're more personal.
Abit more work on the front is a good idea.

I think the only tat that I have ever been appreciative of was Lenny Kravitz doodle on his arm. His daughter supposedly doodled on his arm and he went to a tattoo parlor and had it inked in.
A lot ofmy friends have tat's and I don't give them a hard time about it unless they start showing them off. I think tat's are about as artful as sunglasses.
Come on, do I not have a valid point in regards to the original post? they guy trys to act like a picture of the angel of death, which he can't even elaborate upon is supposed to have some significant meaning to him.
what is the first thing you do when you get a tat? look in the mirror, flex, buy clothes that reveal it.... it is such a self-absorbed ritual....

I would also like to add that I feel that the catalyst for tattoo's is 50% "to look cool" and 50% identity crisis and feeling the need to deform your body to become an "individual". Quite materialistic IMO.
but I can see that I have pissed off some people, even those I respect, so disregard this as just one assholes opinion.

I certainly think there's a lot of posers out there, and people who just don't think about it very deeply, but I think you're overstating just how prevalent that is. Even some of the most mundane tattoos can be ways of self-expression. Bikers often get naked women tattooed on them. Now, that may not convey a very deep message, but it's still self-expression. Even if an individual tattoo doesn't have any particular meaning, just being tattooed can be self-expressive in itself. Some people like to have beautiful desings on their body that simply look good. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Did you read my post,, he was saying about tattoos having meaning and giving strength.. Then he goes on and says he wants a tat on his pubes of someone riding a lawnmower across them.
Each to their own but that's quite contradictory.
I'd personally only get one if it meant something to me,, anything i find fashionable at the moment i probably won't like too much in 20 years time..

im not sure if that is it. I have seen it on him in person, but it isn't really what was drawn, but the connection of someone who has come from you, who is permanent in your life, do something that isphysically permanent to you.

Just think about a tattoo as a hat. You may wear a certain hat because it used tobe your grandpa's and it has sentimental value to you. I may wear a certain hat just because I look good in it. Who really gives a fuck what hat (or tat) or why?

that is funny, because I don't wear hats either. nor sunglasses. I have never dyed my hair, been pierced, or inked. I get my hair cut about twice a year when it gets too long.... or I have a job interview.

I think it is more noble to be interested, rather than strive to be interesting.

sure, this theory of tattoo's sounds quite noble, but I would say that 99% of all tattoo's are generally regretted, and not only that, but they are merely decoration, and personal projection of trying to be "cool".
if everybody got tattoos, then it would take more than just getting one to be cool - which i think is pretty much the case if you go anywhere in the US where tattoos are popular..

People seem to carry pride because they have a tattoo, i'm not sure if it's to do with costs ( or something else ) or if it's because it's a permanent decision they have made about themselves..
People show tats off almost to get approval from others on their own permanent decision.
I can't liken that to a hat.

Why do you think having a tattoo makes one appear to be "striving to be interesting"?

psilocyberin: stop being a baby, if you don't like tattoos then stop posting in this thread, because apparently your just too cool for tattoos or your so cool that you don't need any, because getting tattoos is all about being cool right .
As for me, im going to get a tattoo friday, my first one, heres a picture of it:

The reason im getting it is because Yin Yang represents almost everything in life, good/evil , up/down, left/right, negiative/positive night/day. Everything in life needs an opposite to keep it in balance.

See, now you're just making a blanket statement. What about the 50 year old mother who gets a tat in a non-visible place that's just for her? Or what about the person with scars from a horrible past that would like to beautify it with permanent body art?
I'm sorry but you lost lost all credibility with that ignorant blanket statement.

isnt that the entire point of a tattoo? to be a conversation starter? how many times has silversoul, unprovoked, posted those exact same pictures? Go skim Myspace and see how many people feature their tattoo's.
I think any move towards "self-expression" is ultimatly a conscious act towards trying to be interesting.

I still can't understand your thinking behind this, but whatever. I guess if being "noble" is your bag then stay away from those "materialistic" demon-like tattoos.
