basic Ipod question

alright my brother just got an ipod nano.. and im trying to help him put songs on it
.. i thought i would be able to just drag music onto it.. but that doesnt seem to be working
can someone help me a bit

i'm not 100% positive, but i think you may need itunes.

I think you have to use iTunes or you can try this if you dont like iTunes (which I personally dont, and dont have an Ipod)

yeah my brother is convinced we have to use itunes.. damnit.. this really blows.. guess they con you into paying for the music still

You do not have to buy music to play your music on your ipod.
While in iTunes [the program, not the online store], go to file and look for "add folder to library". It will bring up a screen, select a folder you want to add...
After you've got all the songs you want in your library, [assuming the ipod is installed and connected] look to the left-most menu and find the ipod symbol. Click on it, and hit "update"....

yup anapod is awsome, its usually around on bit torrent etc if your to cheap to pay

http://www.ephpod.com is a good alternative. it is free. I recommend it.
http://www.songbirdnest.com looks promising as an opensource itunes alternative. based on firefox - still in beta stages right now. ipod support with the extensions found here: http://www.windjay.com
