Maybe I made a mistake?

Guys, I am a total noob and did an exhaustive search...I apologize if this is something that I should know. This is a first time attempt at following the PF tek...I had a friend over that recommended using one of the adaptations to make a moisture reservoir in the center of the cake with vermiculite to increase yields. She had a lot of luck with this method and I trusted her, listened to her too well actually....After a better read of 'Adaptation 20' from a PF tek article I realized what I did wrong, can you guys recommend what (if anything) should be done to make it right?
The 'Moisture Reservoir' tek calls for creating a small moist vermiculite cylinder in the middle of the cake, and then capping that off with more rice/vermiculite cake mix. Here's where she steered me wrong: -The Adaptation calls for 'moistened vermiculite' she had me use dry -The Adaptation calls for the cylinder of moist vermic to be capped off my more cake mix, we did not do this. But added the standard 1/2 inch of dry vermic. After sterliziation and innoc, some are showing myc development but the cakes look rather dry, I can only assume that the dry vermic sponged up the extra moisture. She was a very nice girl, and gave me the spore syringes as a gift but she is a complete stoner and seems to have forgotten what to do. She recommends adding about 40 cc's of sterile water to each jar but I think this is asking for trouble.
1) If there is not enough water, will it retard good myc development and lead to the jars stalling? 2) Would adding the water help or hurt? 3) What would you do?
It's only been three days since innoc and we are seeing some tiny white patches...Ideas?

Not speaking from experience, but, the logical thing to do would be to let it colonize (sound like its moist enough for that) and then dunk it before the first flush. If its colonizing why mess with it by adding water which might make your cakes good for the garbage?

you said that you can see some white patches - thats a good sign
i would dunk the cake after the first flush. its been done by lots of beginners and seems to be effective. (i havn't personally done it though)
the cake shouldn't look "wet", it invites contamination.
i think you should be fine, just dunk after first flush if it looks too dry
the tek in this link is fantastic, i used it with no problems. if you want to do cakes again i recommend it.
