I would use a 3-finger clamp. They can grip the odd shape of the sep funnel a lot better than most other clamps can. Quite important when your funnel is a whopping 4 liters... that's some heavy shit.

Of course, I just use a normal clamp, but my funnel is a mere 250mL

What you need is a big-ass ring stand (they're designed for that purpose). A clamp isn't going to cut it. There is one in that picture posted above. You could just cut a suitable sized hole in a board and find some way to mount it horizontally at the proper height.

I'm still having a hard time understand how to hold this thing up.. could someone give me a direct link to a page for what i need.. that will work well? (sorry i'm no scientest :crazy:)

Or, like I said, make a hole in a thick board about the same diameter as the part of the funnel 2/3 of the way up from the stopcock (the valve on the bottom). Just fix the board horizontally and set the funnel in there.

As long as the ring is just below the widest portion of the funnel, you don't really need any additional support. Just make sure the stand itself is damn well secured with a funnel that size... If you feel better putting another clamp on top, go for it.
