Casing question

Greetings shroomers
I am putting together the following casing mix to add to my substrate for tomorrow
15 1/2 Cups of vermiculite 12 Cups of sphagnum peat moss 3 1/2 Cups of coco coir 2 Tablespoons of hydrated lime 3 1/2 Cups of oyster shell flour
I have 3 questions…
1.I bought the coco coir from mycosupply. I am using it for the first time in my casing. It came in a big brick and I do not know how to measure it. How do I make 3 ½ cups out of it? Do I just break it up and try to shove it in a cup? (sorry in advance if it’s a stupid question)
2.I bought hydrated lime from mycosupply as well. About how many grams is 2 tablespoons of hydrated lime? I would like to be precise cause from what I read, a little too much hydrated lime can ruin your casing.
3.And last but not least I am going to use about 2 ½ cups of water for every 3 cups of casing. Does this sound reasonable? (I will microwave for 5 mins afterwards)
Thanks everybody, I am excited… from what Ive read, the above casing mix is the best!

When you are measuring out your peat...for every cup of peat add 1 teaspoon of lime and 1 tablespoon of gypsum.
don't worry about how many grams of lime = a teaspoon or a tablespoon. just get a set of measuring devices from the store that have those measurements.
I would add one cup of water per cup of peat that you have listed.
I would hydrate the Coco Coir...and add that after making up the rest of your casing mix.

I am using 12 cups of peat, which means I should add 12 teaspoons of lime and 12 tablespoons of gypsum, got it

If I understood right, I should add a total of ONLY 12 cups to the WHOLE mix? (that sounds low) OR did you mean for every 1 cup of the mix, use 1 cup of water?

If I hydrate the coco coir, wouldnt it throw off my casing moisture % How much should I hydrate it?
sorry if there are silly questions RK, but I am going to do this later and I want to make sure everything is perfect!
Pix will come soon!!!

start out with adding your dry ingredients first... except the Verm and Coco Coir!~
12 Cups of sphagnum peat moss 12 teaspoons of lime 12 tablespoons of gypsum 3 1/2 Cups of oyster shell flour
mix that up really good...
then add 12 cups of water to that.
check your ph level if you feel inclined to do so after it has sat for an hour or so.
It should be right on ph wise.
Then add your Verm into the mix...after doing the above.
You might have to add just a tad more water... since I usually use the same ammount of peat as verm.
By hydating the Coco Coir it won't throw off your casing moisture level... just put some coir into a container and add water.
Let it sit for a little while and after it is damp squeeze out the excess water out of it.
Then add the Coco Coir to the rest of your casing mix.
Then pastuerize it or nuke it!~
you should be good to go!~
