Quote:

If the resolution is approved, the 12 planets in our solar system listed in order of their proximity to the sun would be Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Ceres, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Charon, and the provisionally named 2003 UB313. Its discoverer, Michael Brown of the California Institute of Technology, nicknamed it Xena after the warrior princess of TV fame, but it likely would be rechristened something else later, the panel said.

Now that we've discovered a bunch of thingies way out there near Pluto's orbit that are about the same size and composition as Pluto, we either have to change what Pluto is, or grant planet status to all the thingies.

The new definition being considered is that anything big enough that its own gravity is strong enough to make it into a sphere qualifies as a planet. That leaves all the asteroids and comets, which are too small to have much gravity, out of the Planet league but adds a whole bunch more plants to our solar system near Pluto's orbit.

It's a Goofy situation, really.

2) You can't have an abortion no matter how much you don't want a child.
3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

Charon and Ceres as a planet??? WTF? Charon is moon! And Ceres is an asteroid the size Texas!

They can't seriously be considering these as planets. If that is the case then there should really be more like a hundred or even thousands of planets in our solar system.

In my book a planet is a lump of solids, liquids or gases that is so massive that it under its own gravity becomes a sphere.

Anyone in favor of calling 2003UB313 "the flying sheit"?
We already have uranus so a flying sheit is only natural.

Perhaps it could be a designation of size:

Solar Wind
Space Dust
Space Rubble
Space Rocks
Flying Sheit
Planet
Gas Giant
Black Dwarf
Star
Black Hole
Quasar
