They arent gills. They are pores. You either have gills, or pores on a mushroom. A spore print is very important in identification. Also, just because its in a woody area, you need to learn what type of tree it grew under. If your truly interested in this hobby, I know a couple websites that are great for us noobs.

Thanks...  I must admit though, the artwork on the bolete was done by my room mate, puritybinge...

I drew one with a penis on it and left it in the middle of the trail

Notice some blue staining on your specimens. Bluing boletes should be considered poisonous. Inedible.

In my family, we look for those mushrooms as your top specimine. We call them Beloja, which means White in Russian. I would suggest seeing if it does bruise a little at the stem, because it'll make it a completely different mushroom, but we'll pick those ones as well, they're just not as tasty. In my opinion, you have a very tasty mushroom in the first specimine, but I also may be wrong.

EDIT: I beleive I found it on Wikipedia. I beleive it to be a Boletus edulis. That one you have might be an older one because of the yellowing pores.

In North America, many of the blue staining boletes are toxic. There are some yellow-pored, blue stainers that are edible in the Boletus bicolor complex of mushrooms. But because of the danger of misidentification, we tend to play it safe and assume that a blue-stainer is poisonous. For more experienced hunters, blue-staining boletes can be eaten at there own risk. Boletus edulis doesn't bruise blue to my knowledge.

Bay Boletes (Boletus badius) are one of my favourite gourmet mushrooms and they stain blue

Yeah, but I would personally consider it to be poisonous, with my lack of bolete knowledge.

Good point, though.

B. edulis does not stain blue.

The first one reminds me of a couple of siullus species we get in Australia, although the top of their cap is usually darker. They are - ofcourse - members of the Bolete group.
Some of the Suillis species in Australia are edible and quite nice, although not really very good replacements for edulis.
In Australia, the boletes that stain blue/green are regarded as poisonous. I remember one was originally called either Boletus caerulescens or Boletus aeruginosa in relation to the blue staining and it was regarded as poisonous.
Other Boletes that stain blue include Boletellus emodensis, Boletellus obscurecoccineus, Boletus barragensis, Pulveroboletus ravenelii, and a few others.
None of these are considered edible.

True, but it does resemble B. edulis. I didn't realize that the two from the pictures were related.

Boletus Edulis doesnt have a bright yellow stem, its more of a white colour.
Was the cap of the top mushroom sticky?

My guess is Boletus subvelutipes (Red-mouth Bolete).
Poisonous
